LONDON, ENGLAND - 2022
The young woman spun in a wild circle, her blonde hair falling over her broad shoulders.
In her hand, she held a violin, with golden strings in the bright colour of sand and beautifully carved ornaments at both sides of the wood. The bow was flying over the strings, wondrous tunes escaping from her beloved instrument.
She played it since she had been six years old, having her parents going mad every time looking for a violin teacher.
Little did they know that she didn't need anyone teaching her, it had just come to her - that wonderful ability to rule over an instrument like this, without ever having to practice.
An ability her friends had already grown jealous of, for her being the best student at the Montgomery Academy of Musical Arts.
An ability only a true god could possess, inspiring people to do better things, watching over a whole realm of her own.
Back then, she had never even thought of her being a god - until that faithful day in July.
That day when he came for her.
"Hello, Susie!"
The voice came out of nowhere, making the blonde woman suddenly waking up from her deep sleep.
Susie rubbed her eyes, putting on her round glasses on the table next to her bed. The curtains in front of the window were moving along with the warm breeze of the summer - at least, she wouldn't catch a cold.
Just as Susie was about to get a glass of water, she noticed the pale - faced man standing in the dimly lit kitchen. He had to be around her age, with dark ruffled hair and deep green eyes narrowing her in curiosity as she went. He wore a long dark coat, flapping out behind him even if there was no wind.
How strange...
The man spoke again, his deep voice sending shivers down Susies spine.
"You must be Susie Lynn, I suppose? I am Lord Morpheus, the King of Dreams - but in this realm, you maybe know me as the Sandman!"
Susie frowned, not knowing what to answer - a few seconds later, she broke into nervous laughter.
"Are you fucking kidding me?", she asked, wildly shaking her head.
"The Sandman is not even real, it's just a tale...and besides, you don't even look like putting kids to sleep. You're even more like...I don't know...the Boogeyman?"
Morpheus folded his arms in frustration, that girl wasn't very bright at all.
And as far as he knew, the Boogeyman was a serial killer who once had wreaked havoc amongst the humans, along with his by far deadliest creation, the Corinthian.
Luckily, he was long gone now.
He reached out into his pocket, showing Susie a little leather pouch full of glittering sand - the very same colour of the violins' strings.
"Can your Boogeyman do this?", Morpheus replied, spilling a few of the sand in Susies eyes which made her nose tickle. Then, he held out his hand, smiling.
"Come with me. I'll show you something you won't quite believe!"
