"Hello Susie!"
The voice came out of nowhere, making the little girl suddenly waking up from her deep sleep.
Susie rubbed her eyes, reaching out for the round glasses on the bedside table.
At first, her poor sight made everything seem blurry in the dark, but once she had got used to it, she could spot a man standing in front of her bed.
A thin man with messy dark hair, pale face and a long dark coat, his eyes like black opals fixating on her.
In his right hand, he was holding a leather pouch and in the other a shimmering violin with golden glowing strings, crafted from the finest woods.
Susie could have sworn that she had never seen this man before - and yet, he seemed so familiar.
Then, sudden realisation hit her like a truck.
"You're Dream of the Endless, aren't you?", the 8 year old asked, eyes growing larger and larger.
"My mum told me a story about you, at first I didn't believe it, but now you're here...you're really here...she said I should be prepared for when you would return from your capture...but I don't know for what...I hope you can tell me..."
She was talking so fast Susie could barely breathe, the King of Dreams listening carefully to every word.
After she had finished, Morpheus took a seat right next to her bed, smiling warmly:
"I did return, yes. But this is only a dream, time works much different here. So, at the moment we're talking right now, I'm still captured in Roderick Burgess' cellar, robbed of my possessions and my power. That's why I need your help, Susie Lynn...I need you to travel to his mansion. Only in your mind, of course. There, you must find out where my belongings are, you'll recognise them very easily. You think you can do that?"
Susie shaked her head in disbelief, frowning.
"I don't really know if I can do this. You see, I'm nothing special, I have no power like you. I really want to help, but...I can't. I'm sorry, Dream - "
"There's no need to feel sorry for!", Morpheus replied, placing a hand on the little girls' shoulder.
"You may not know that, but you're still a child. And children like you have special powers, indeed - they believe in the power of Dreams. They believe in me, Susie Lynn. And as long as you believe in me, that power will remain forever in your heart, no one can ever take that away. So, I think you're more than capable of finding my objects!"
Susie took a deep breath, nervously biting her lower lip:
"How can I do that, Dream? How can I travel to Roderick Burgess without actually being there? Does that even work?"
"It'll work, I promise!", the King of Dreams responded, lifting the magical violin on his shoulder.
"I'll guide you through with my music, as long as you focus on it, nothing can harm you...not even the Corinthian!"
Susie couldn't help herself, but getting rather shaky by hearing that name - it sounded like the worst nightmare she could ever have thought of.
Not just even her worst nightmare, but all of humanity's worst fears embodied in that single name.
Her voice trembling, the 8 - year old whispered:
"I'll focus, Dream. So, why should we wait any longer? Let's do this!"
Morpheus didn't answer, pulling out a few grains of his sand and sprinkling it over Susie.
A sudden tiredness overwhelmed her, nothing she ever had felt before - and yet, she felt weak and wide awake at the same time.
Just as Dream started playing, she began to float like a leaf in the wind, being whisked away to an unknown place.
