narrative
daryl looked down at his shaking hands.
i'm gonna do it. i'm just gonna go in there and do it. he thought to himself.
"hey, rory can we uh, talk?"
"yeah, sure!" she flashed him a smile. the smile that he had grown to love over the year they spent next to each other.
"do you wanna go in my cell? maggie has the twins with her?"
"yeah that's good." he nodded, he followed the girl up the stairs and into her cell. he shut the door behind him.
"whatcha need?" she sat on the lower bunk of the bed.
"i uh, i really need to ask you something."
"ok." she nodded her head once, a gesture to tell him to ask.
"be- be my girl?" he wasn't good at this, nope no he wasn't. he had never had to do, or say, something like this. this was the first time.
"your girl?" she smiled. "as in your girlfriend?" he nodded slowly.
"you don't have to-"
"of course i will!" she sprang from her sitting position and into his arms. instinctively, he wrapped his arms around her waist to keep her from falling.
"i was waiting for you to ask." she smiles, leaning in to give him a kiss. her cheeks started to hurt from smiling so much.
"come on, let's go eat. beth was making some food." she pulls herself from his grip and the two go back downstairs.
other then the sound of utensils hitting bowls, or the twins babbling, the room was silent. both aurora and daryl were looking to carl. he wasn't eating, just sitting there with his head down.
aurora sat next to daryl on the stairs, evie on his lap and ellie on hers. she was alternating giving them bites from a can of applesauce while she ate also.
"everybody ok?" rick opens the door, walking in. everyone in the room looked to him. aurora smiled softly as elowen took the spoon full of apple sauce into her mouth. clapping after she was done.
"yeah, we are." maggie answered him. he walked further into the room.
"what about you?" hershel asked him.
"i cleared out the boiler block." he deflected, but answered, hershels question in a way.
"how many were there?" daryl asked, placing a spoonful of food into his mouth.
"i don't know, a dozen, two dozen," he shrugged slightly. "i have to get back, just wanted to check on carl. rory." he placed his hand on carls shoulder, looking at rory who kept giving bites of applesauce to evie and ellie.
"rick, we can handle taking out the bodies." glenn stood up. "you don't have to."
"no. i do." he started to walk towards daryl, "everyone have a gun and a knife?" he asked daryl.
"yeah. we're running low on ammo though."
"maggie, rory, and me were planning on making a run this afternoon. found a phone book with some places we can hit, look for bullets and formula." glenn said.
"rory?" rick looked to his younger sister.
"need to get out of the walls." she said simply, taking a bite of her food.
"we, uh, cleared out the generator room." daryl said, rick tearing his gaze away from aurora. "axel's in there trying to fix it, in case of emergency. we're gonna sweep the lower levels as well."
"good. good." he started to walk out of the room.
"rick!" hershel called out to him. rick ignored him and slammed the door behind him, causing aurora to scoff.
"let's go soon please." she stood up, her arm wrapped around elowens waist. she walked over to the playpen, setting her softly in there.
"yeah, yeah. we can go now. we're done eating." glenn motioned to maggie then himself.
"good, i'll be right back." she looked back to daryl before going up to her room. she rubbed her hand over her face, grabbing her knife she slid it into the holster.
"you ok?" daryl slid into the cell, closing the door behind him.
"i don't know. the way he walked in there and didn't pay any attention to the baby pissed me off."
"he'll warm up to her. how could you not?" she smiled at his statement.
"i hope, that's all i can do now." she shook her head. "i better go, they're probably waiting on me." she went to go walk past him, getting stopped when daryl put his arm out in front of her.
"no kiss? no goodbye?" she pouted, pulling him down into a kiss.
"goodbye daryl, be safe."
"same goes for you, be safe." he pecked her lips once more before letting her leave.
"i'm ready when you are." she walked down the steps. the three of them walked out to the chevoret suburban. she sat in the backseat quiet as they drove to the destination.
michonne watched from afar as they pulled up to the abandoned strip mall. maggie and aurora got out, taking a look around.
"clear outside." maggie said, walking over to glenn. aurora followed in suit.
"alright, let's take a look." glenn said.
"hey." maggie got close to him. bending down a little to peck him on the lips. glenn put his hands on her face, deepening it.
aurora let out a fake gag, making the two pull away. "can you guys not eat each other's faces while i'm around, thank you very much." she said sarcastically, with a smile on her face.
"yeah, yeah." glenn rolled his eyes, walking over to the car to grab the bolt cutters. putting his flashlight into his mouth he quickly cut the chains off the door.
"holy fuck." aurora muttered, ducking as birds flew out of the store and at them. glenn let out a huff, walking into the store. maggie shined her light in there.
"glenn, get that duck."
"what?"
"get that duck." aurora laughed a little.
"are you serious?" glenn asked, laughing a little also.
"yeah! kids growing up in a prison could use some toys." she said. glenn rolled his eyes and picked up the toy, shoving it into his bag.
"alright, seems to be clear. let's go." aurora walked into the store. aurora pulled out her flashlight, going in opposite directions of glenn.
"we just hit the powdered formula jackpot!" glenn followed aurora and maggie out of the store with a basket full of formula.
"oh, thank god." maggie let out a breath.
"aurora got beans, batteries. i got cocktail wieners, many mustards. it's a straight shot back to the prison from here." glenn read through the list of things they got. maggie laughing a little.
"probably make it in time for dinner."
"good, i miss daryl and my babies." aurora wrapped her arms around herself.
"i like the quiet." maggie started, grabbing a basket and making her way to the car. "back there, back home. you can always here them, outside the fence, no matter where you are." she rolled her eyes.
"and where is y'all good people are calling home?"
MERLE! i love Michael, just not merle so much.
