narrative

aurora sighed heavily as they passed by trees. yawning she leaned her head against the head rest.

"hey! hey! slow down! slow down!" aurora peaks her head up seeing a man with a bright orange backpack on the side of the road. no one said anything when passing him

"slow... i'm begging you! no! please!" both carl and aurora turned to look out the back window to see him fade away in the distance.

with a straight face she turns back to the front, though that didn't last long. her face scrunches with annoyance when they come across a car wreck that covered the whole road.

michonne turned off road, trying to get around it. it didn't work, the wheels spin in the mud and they didn't go anywhere.

aurora reached for her door when walkers slammed themselves against it. she closed her eyes and leaned back against the head rest.

"cover your ears." rick sighed. aurora didn't hesitate to shove her pointer fingers in her ears. her eyes flinched a little when a gunshot could be heard throughout the air. it went quiet for a couple of seconds before multiple more rang out.

"alright." aurora watched as rick, carl, and michonne got out of the car. she contemplated whether or not to get out also. did she really need to get out?

the answer was no. no she didn't. so she wasn't go to. she leaned back in her seat, watching out the window and rick went through suitcases of stuff.

"yeah this'll work." he held up a long blue floral print dress.

"tell me when." michonne walked to the drivers seat. leaving rick and carl outside alone.

aurora felt an uncomfortable feeling settle over her as michonne sat in the driver seat, gripping the wheel till her knuckles turned white. she bit her lip nervously, listening to carl and rick talk about her.

"hey! help me! i'm begging you! don't leave." rick taps the back of the car, hinting to michonne to start the car.

which she does and with a little power the car comes unstuck. rick and carl quickly get into the car and they drive off, leaving the man once more.

they stopped just outside the town, aurora felt her nerves run. it had been over a year and everything was the same, but so different at the same time. they passed buildings that held so many memories for her.

rick took the lead, he could walk through this town blindfolded and backwards. that's how well he knew it. they rounded a corner and was met with the police station.

the door creaked open as they entered the building. all of them having their weapons raised. they followed rick to the back, where the employee lockers were and the gun locker was.

aurora looked around the room, eyes landing on the now empty locker. she thought back to about two years ago, when it was full, when the dead wasn't walking and she was somewhat happy.

she knew every inch of this place, she grew up here. when it was take your kid to work day, rick brought her along with carl. he didn't want her to feel left out.

after school she would come here and wait when she didn't want to be alone. everyone in the office knew her and loved when she was around.

when rick and shane would get off she would wait in here for them, she would either do homework or count the guns through the cell walls.

"you got any other police stations in town?" michonne asked, looking around. the floor was littered with paper.

"i was the police here. me and a few other guys." rick tells her.

"its not a big town." aurora says softly, still looking around the room. her eyes landed on shane and ricks old lockers. they were slightly open but some paper sat in them. she walked over to them, pulling open ricks first.

she grabbed the small stack of paper and went through them. most of them were just paper work, but a picture she drew for him and a photograph were in the mix.

the picture just said 'happy birthday' with a large heart in the middle. the photo was of him and her. it was taken recently, a couple of months before the outbreak.

it was for her senior pictures. she was the youngest of her class and would have graduated just before she turned 17.

she pulled open shanes, also seeing mostly paperwork. but a picture of him holding a just born carl and 4 year old rory was under it all.

"rory, it's time to go." rick came up behind his sister. she turned slowly, the stuff still in her hands. she held it out for him to take. he tucked the picture she drew and the photo of him and her in his pocket.

"you wanna keep this one?" they both looked down at the photo of shane, carl, and rory. she had a lot of pictures with shane, but with like most of her stuff. they went down with the farm.

"yeah." she took it from his hands and put it in her pocket. "let's go." she took a couple of steps back before turning on her heel and walking out of the building.

"it looks like someone already made this theirs." aurora looked around at the many wires and sharp sticks that were strung around the town.

"doesn't mean they found what we're looking for. couple of places are just up ahead." rick says.

"let's get in and get the hell out of here." suddenly an eerie feeling brushed over her.

"there. tyrell's. a shotgun and two handguns. license issued to tyrell debbs." he pointed. a growl was heard behind them and they all turned. michonne pulled her sword from her sheath.

"wait. she get caught." rick puts his hand up. she did indeed get caught, but before they could continue walking, the walker was shot down.

"hands!" a man shouted from atop a building. they all slowly put up their hands. "now drop what you got and you go. your guns, your shoes, and that sword. all of it. 10 seconds."

"run for the car now." rick told carl and rory.

"10..."

"dad."

"we need that rifle." michonne says.

"nine... eight..."

"i think i can get up there." michonne looks around.

"seven...six..."

"carl, rory. go!" rick pulled out his gun and started to shoot at the man. michonne ducked down and went to find a way up. carl and aurora went behind an abandoned car.

"carl!" aurora whispered harshly and gripped for her nephews hand as he got up. his hand slipped from hers and she watched as he pulled his gun and shot.

she got up and stood beside him. on the ground was the man and rick was getting up from behind a metal barrel.

"you ok?" rick placed a hand on his shoulder. carl nodded his head slightly. "i told you to run for the car, i didn't want you to have to do that."

"i had to." carl says. rick decided to not argue with him right now. he leaned down and ripped open the man's shirt, revealing body armor.

"he's alive."

"do we care." michonne walks up. rick took off the man's mask. his face pales slightly.

"yeah."

i'm thinking about how i should have aurora find deja and jaden. should they be with morgan, or should they be somewhere in town.
