"Where are the keys?" I asked, sitting in the driver's seat. Max slid into the passenger's next to me, and Mike, Dustin, and Lucas squished in the back with Steve. Max pulled Billy's key's out of her back pocket and handed them to me.
"Are you sure you know how to drive?"
"Yes, I've done it before."
"Funny, specifically remember a conversation we had where you said you can't drive." Max laughed.
"I can drive." I turned the keys in the ignition and started the car.
The ride was fairly smooth. I turned around in the driveway, and kind of swerved on the road, but not much. I was going very fast though, like a good fifty miles per hour.
Max was annoyed, but I had stopped in front of a gas station just fine.
"This is stupid," Mike said.
We were gathered around the gas station doors, one that had closed a while earlier that night. The neon lights were still on, and if you looked through the windows, you could see the glow from the fridge doors. But we needed gas, and the store was locked.
"No, we need more gasoline, and Steve didn't wake up, so he can't stop us." I searched the ground for a large rock or something.
"I still don't see why we need more," Dustin complained.
"Because, if we don't kill it then, it's gonna kill us." I picked up a stone off the ground, something the size of a dinner plate.
"Are there cameras?" Mike asked.
"What basic ass gas station has cameras?" Max muttered, fiddling with Steve's lighter.
"True."
"You're just gonna smash the window?" Lucas asked. "With a rock?"
"Do you have a better idea?"
He was quiet.
"Alright, here goes nothing." I threw the rock through the window with both hands. It was more of a sad toss, but it did the job. The glass shattered to the floor, and the rock landed with a loud thud. There was a chunk from the bottom of the glass door missing, broken, and on the floor.
"How are we supposed to fit through that?" Mike asked.
I walked up and kicked the rest of the glass out of the frame. "That's how."
He nodded, and followed me through the doorway.
"Lucas, Dustin, you guys take that side, Mike and Daisy and I will take this side," Max said.
"Got it."
I poked my head down one of the aisles, seeing rows upon rows of candy bars. Food. Max groaned as I walked down the row and started filling my pockets. I glanced at her, smirking, and watched her pocket a roll of oreos. Mike took a few Reese's cups.
"We're getting distracted," Max said.
"We are." I smiled, finding the snack aisle. "But, I just lost a ton of blood, and Steve is passed out in the car, so we need fuel."
"And literal fuel, like gasoline," Mike added.
"Yeah, so go find it," Max said.
"Fine, I'm going." I turned down another aisle and found the drinks, with the bright glowing refrigerators and neon-colored drink bottles. "Oh."
"Just take what you want and leave." Max grinned, grabbing a can of coke and putting it in her pocket.
I rolled my eyes, then found a can of Fanta, and a few bottles of water for Steve.
