"Oh shit." I groaned. The man was already behind the car. We didn't have time.
"Steve Harrington I swear to god-" The man appeared in the window.
I glanced at him. He frowned. I rolled down my window.
"Listen here you little shit-" The man said. He had thin hair and a mustache.
"Chief!" Steve exclaimed. "How's it going, on this fine evening?"
"Okay." He peered through the window at Steve. "What the hell is going on here?"
"Look-"
"Get out of the car. Both of you." He grumbled.
I stared at him. Somehow, he looked familiar.
"You too." He nodded to me.
I glared at him, then opened the door and stepped out.
"Who is this?" The chief officer nodded to me.
"That's-"
"Doesn't matter." He said. "What does matter, is what the hell you were doing out at almost two am on a Saturday morning, joyriding around at one hundred miles per hour?!"
He waved a flashlight in the back of the car. His eyes went wide.
He reached through the window and picked up the bloody bat from the backseat.
"Just what were you two up to?" He growled. He shined the light in my eyes as he spoke.
"Look, chief, it's not what it looks like," Steve said. "That was-" He glanced at me. "That was used to uh, incapacitate the uh, the thing, last year."
He glared at Steve. "You did not use that word correctly."
"Really?" He rolled his eyes. "You know what I'm talking about."
"Then why do you have it? And why is there fresh blood?" His face went white. "I-Is it back?"
"What?" Steve laughed. "No, I just smacked our dad in the face with it and yelled at him to fuck off-"
"Steve!" I exclaimed. "You're not supposed to tell him that-"
"That's what you were running from?" The man asked.
"Yes."
"In that case, I'm gonna have to bring you two down to the station. What's your name?"
"Daisy Harrington," I muttered.
"Wha-" He froze.
"Chief!" Steve said. "Look, I know it looks and sounds bad, but please, just let us off this one time-"
"You're Daisy." The officer said.
I nodded. "Yeah."
"Sarah's friend?"
I frowned. "Why do you care about Sarah-"
He hugged me. The cop hugged me.
"Ugh-" I elbowed him, running away. "What the hell?"
"Daisy, it's Hop. Do you remember?" He was smiling. His smile. I did remember it.
"Uh-" Steve frowned. "She's sixteen-"
"You're her dad!" I finally figured it out.
"Yeah!" He exclaimed. "Oh, it's so nice to see you again!"
I nodded. "Yeah, uh, I guess."
"You were just a kid when you left." He noted. "And she would've been sixteen by now."
