*Make sure to read the first and second book "California to Hawkins" and "Love You to Hell and Back" first!!
Spring, 1986.
Still here in Indiana, Hawkins.
I'm here, flopped on my bed, picking up a letter that I got yesterday. I know who it's from, seeing all the doodles on the envelope and the return address. California, Lenora Hills.
I open the letter, sliding my thumb under the seal before taking the paper out, unfolding it and letting my eyes roam the letters.
Dear Y/N,
How are you?
I hope you are doing well. I know that the last time I wrote was a few weeks ago, so I hope that there is more to say now!
California is great. We have been settling in, but things seem to be getting better. Will and I have a project coming up and I'm allowed to make art for it!
I miss you lots and hope you'll visit!
How're you and Max? Still the cutest couple on the planet?
(Still disagree, it's Mike and I.)From,
El
I smile softly at the letter. Reading it and imagining El doing a presentation with her adorable artwork in her hands. I turn to grab a paper from my desk, grabbing a pen and sitting down to write.
Dear El,
I'm alright.
Guess what? I forgot to tell you this.
I punched Jason in the face a few weeks ago. Remember that guy?
The idiot basketball player I wrote about before.
He was bullying Mike and Dustin, so I stepped in cause you know those two can't fight for their life.
It's great you get to do art! I know you liked it before.
Max and I are....-
I get cut off with a knock on my door.
"Y/N! Come on! Steve and I have to get to work so you better get dressed and get up or we have to leave!" Robin's voice floats through the door. "Coming!" I shout back, folding the paper and putting it in a drawer. I'll finish that later.
Grabbing a pair of jeans, favourite sneakers and my Hellfire shirt. I put them on before grabbing my leather jacket. Or what Dustin calls, my 'infamous' leather jacket. Ever since I punched Jason in the face, I seem to have created a reputation for myself. Jason hates me, think's i'm a freak. Others are scared of me, moving out of my way when I walk. Some guys wanna screw me, thinking that getting with the 'bad girl' gets them some points. I internally laugh at that cause guess what dudes! I'm gay, and never gonna get with you.
I sling my backpack over one shoulder, opening the door and trudging downstairs where I grab a piece of toast and kiss my parent's cheeks goodbye. "Love you!" I say before rushing out the door after Robin. Steve is in the car as I get in, turning to do our handshake before starting the engine. "Let's go." He says, pulling away from the driveway.
Even though people see me as the 'bad girl' or 'the rebel', my friends know me, and know I'm anything but that. My scores haven't dropped so I'm alright there and I'm in the Hellfire club, a DnD club where we play major campaigns every week or so. Mike, Dustin and Lucas are in the club too and we always make sure to stick together.
I tune back into Robin and Steve's conversation in front of me, already wishing I didn't. "Do I wanna start another relationship that has no point other than sex?" Steve asks, gesturing with his hands. "I mean, I don't know. Does that make sense to you?" He asks, looking over at Robin. "Robin, are you listening?" He asks. She snaps back into focus, looking at the boy. "Uh, yeah." She mutters. "What did I just say?" He asks, clearly not convinced. "Something about sex with Linda?" She tries, clearly hoping she got it right. He sighs, looking at me through the rear view mirror. "Y/N? Were you listening?" He asks. "Uh, nope." I reply.
