"What exactly were you all doing at the lake?" The officer asks. We look at each other awkwardly. I'm perched on the armrest of the sofa that the other three are sitting on and we're in the Wheeler's house. "Uhhhh. We..."

"We were just going for a walk..." Max says, nodding. "A walk? At 9:00 pm?" The other officer asks. "To the lake! We were gonna...take a little swim." Dustin says with an oddly high pitched voice. "Little night swim...?" He adds. I mentally facepalm. This is, stupid.

"Dusty! Someone was just murdered there!" His mother says, on the verge of tears. "Yeah, we...we didn't realise that until we got there." Dustin says. "That's why we didn't swim." Lucas adds. "And Nancy, was she with you at this night swim?" Mrs Wheeler asks. "No." Max says just as Dustin says. "Yes." They look at each other and I once again, mentally facepalm. "We're not sure." I say. "She was there. Then she left." Dustin says. "It's all a little confusing." I say, smiling. "That's when you guys came," Lucas says. "Right! Then they dared me to say what I said." Max adds, smiling too. "Oh yeah...About that killer." Lucas says as he and Dustin laugh and I just smile.

"You're lucky you didn't get shot." Mr Wheeler says. "Have you had any contact with Eddie?" Officer Powell says. "That psycho....freak killer?" Dustin asks. "God. no." I say, laughing. "Nope. Absolutely not." I say. "No, we haven't heard from him." Max adds, shaking her head. "We barely know the guy." Lucas adds. "Who?" Dustin goes on.

"Oh that's a bunch of bull." Erica shouts from where she is behind the parents. "Erica!" Her parents shout. "I mean, you realise they're lying, right? The whole couch is on fire." She goes on. "Erica!" Her parents say again. "Just the facts."

"Are you lying to these policemen, Dusty?" His mom asks. "No!"
"Lying to the cops is a crime!" Lucas' dad says. "I'm not lying!' He shouts. "The fire is consuming us." Erica says.
"Y/N, you're telling the truth?" My mother says. "Yes!" I say.

"Threaten them with a little jail time. Maybe that'll loosen their lips." Mr Wheeler says. Okay, what? "You wanna send our kids to jail?" Mrs Sinclair says. "We need to take this seriously." Mr Wheeler says. "He didn't mean it like that." Mrs Wheeler says. "You're just willing to say that because none of them are you kids!" My dad says, crossing his arms. I put my hand on my head, sighing. "This is dumb." I whisper to Max, who nods. "Oh my god.." She sighs, leaning back. Her mom is the only one who isn't here, so she just stays silent as the rest of us argue with our parents.

"Shut up!" Officer Powell shouts, making us all...well, shut up. "We're gonna try a more civilized approach. One at a time." He says before pointing at Max. "You first." he says. "Wait what? Why me?" She asks, not moving. "Follow me." The officer says. "I'm not even in Hellfire!" She shouts back. "Good point." He says. "And she has no parent here. That isn't fair." I say, standing. "Fine. Both girls first." He says, nodding to us. "Okay, that's just mean." I say, crossing my arms. The other officer steps in. "Do I need to cuff you two?" He asks. I sigh, shaking my head. "Up"

Max stands as we both walk into the other room. "This is ridiculous!" She whispers to me. "I know." I say, sighing. We walk into a home office and sit at the table. "Okay, girls. Now, tell me what exactly happened." The officer says. I cross my arms, leaning back on the chair as Max smirks.

"Well as we said, we went to the lake." I say. "Yes, you said you went for a walk?" The officer asks. "Yes, dumbo. Why else would we go there? Walk on water?" Max says. The younger officer looks at us, hurt. Ha, that's funny. "We went to the lake on a walk then decided to go for a night swim." Max says. "Why?" The officer asks. "Because c'mon. You see a large body of water, and it's a humid night." I say, rolling my eyes.

"Did Nancy Wheeler show up at any point?" The officer asks. "Yeah, she did. She came over to drop off our torches before leaving." I say, nodding. "Where did she go?"
"How would we know, idiot? We were going to swim." Max says, scoffing. I smirk and lean back again. He sighs, standing. "Nothing else to add?" He asks, tilting his head. "No. As we said, you showed up after." I say.
