Riya rubbed her forehead in frustration, pausing slightly at her trembling hand as it rose. It was happening too many times these days, especially bad when she feels anxiety bubbling inside her. She lowered it when another footsteps came near her.
Today was supposed to be a good day. She had worked so hard – on her Presentation, on the case studies, on her own research, taking examples of cases all around the world. She wanted to convince the department so bad to let profiling start on an official note, dreamt nothing but that – it kept her sane since she returned from hospital. She was flying high, she was assured by her own confidence on the subject and a strong support in Rathore sir. Yet, it crashed. As per the seniors, it was a pseudo science. As if established police forces around the world isn't already implementing the n. For the first time in her life she felt as if she was standing in front of a bunch of morons.
She understood their reservation. The lack of staff, the unknown territory, the idea of training the people. It stung how they brushed it aside, Not even willing to consider something so special and cherished. It could have grown from a nascent idea. There were so many possibilities. But she didn't get the approval.
"I am sorry." Rathore sighed.
"I left doing my paper for this." She gritted her teeth. First she sold her research, then she was in hospital, now this. She was way behind her paper and if things continue in this manner, forget submitting it the next year.
"I am sorry."
She shook head, "its not your fault "Rathore Sir had tried a lot from his side. This was his idea too – but after a point, it's beyond his power. They have to accept the decision and move past it.
It also raises a question what will happen to her liaison with ETF- she was a consultant before. Is her expertise even needed When the department is not recognize her work, worst they raise question on the work the team is doing and put the cases in backfoot.
"I had so much hope." Riya gave a sad smile, finally looking at him. "An infinite amount of hope."
He mirrored the same. "There is an infinite amount of hope in the universe ... but not for us."
Maybe there was some truth in his words.
