Insomniac - We Three

"Six-feet apart, but damn it felt so close
Your freckles made it hard to keep my distance though [...]
I don't think you know that you're the one in a room
That baby won't have a clue
That they're the one in a room that everybody's into"

"Ona Taylor, por el amor de Dios. Hurry up!" Mapi Leon yelled from across the bathroom door making me jump startled by her sudden voice.

After checking myself one last time on the large mirror, I opened the door to find an impatient Mapi leaning against the wall and the way her eyes were observing me told me she was an inch away from insulting me

"Tia me cago en-"

"Maria, behave." Ingrid's Norwegian accent interrupted a well deserved insult from the spaniard. We had said to leave at half past five and it was six o'clock now.

"In my defense Mapi we all know I lack fashion sense, it takes me more than you guys." I sheepishly smiled at her trying my best to light up the mood, but her frown kept its place

"Nena, I'm sorry. I'll buy you a flag to cheer you up, dale?"

I heard her mutter a puta niña but I let it pass, she after all was like an older sister. She held the door open for us and when I passed by her, I left a loud kiss on her cheek. Ingrid smiled at my antics as she intertwined her fingers with Mapi's. The spaniard annoyed wrinkle was gone, replaced by a soft smile. After leaving the hotel, Mapi and Ingrid walked hand in hand towards the stadium where we would be watching the semifinal of the Euros.

"No fashion sense doesn't stop you from stealing my clothes, pequeña." Fast footsteps were heard and toned arms surrounded my shoulders, bringing a wide smile on my face

"Oh, I think your walk-in wardrobe won't miss this Ale." Neither her open and disorganized suitcase laying on top of my bed, I hoped

Alexia had the best and biggest wardrobe I had ever seen. She had so many clothes that it reassured my thought of her not even noticing the white Nike tee with "Pute11as" written that I had borrowed with no return. She laughed at my not so funny joke causing a weird glance from the couple in front, but it was usual.

I walked the remaining blocks to the stadium with her arm on my shoulder, a gesture I loved since the day I met her three years ago in a sports event in Seattle. Her shy hola made my culé heart race and there was no turning back. Alexia had the world at her feet and I was no exception.

Our relationship evolved to a family status rapidly and before I knew it I was in Barcelona eating grapes for New Year's Day surrounded by her aunts and uncles. When she called my club OL Reing a month ago after learning they didn't let me go to the Euros after the season ended, she had specifically said that she needed her little sister supporting her. I was a Putellas with Taylor on her back.

"Ona! I'll race you to the stadium."

Startled once again by Mapi, I saw her wide grin challenging me. Besides her, Ingrid sighed probably thinking of how childish her girlfriend is but cute nonetheless

"Oh please, you already lost millions of times. You sure you want another loss in the book?." Her grin jus grew bigger and bigger and at that point I knew I had her

"Bring it, Onita. Alexia, count down." Chuckling because of the nickname, I jogged to her position. The infamous race was just two blocks but we made it seemed like it was an Olympic game
