"It's not a question you need an answer to, Thomas"- Francis Shelby

*two months later*

Todays air was nippy, and a sadness floated around as Thomas spoke into it. He spoke kind words of the harsh faced Freddie Thorne, a boy who he had cared for as he grew up and a boy Ada had loved as she grew too. The two had always had their differences but when it came down to it, Ada had loved him and he had saved Thomas' life.

Freddie had passed unexpectedly a couple weeks prior, some sort of sickness. Ada thinks it was that Spanish Influenza. After Thomas got him out of jail he could finally be happy, looking after Ada and Karl. Everybody was content from what ada had said in her letters. Ada moved not long after Francis had left. She said it was safer for the family... but that didn't make it any easier.

But once again the family was reunited as they all stood around Freddie Thornes grave.

John was stood with his newest child in his arms and Esme clinging to his jacket, she was crying as was Ada. Francis took a look around and noticed the rest of the peaky clan. Polly looked glum with her smiled flipped to a frown and eyebrows scrunched, Arthur was stood trying to keep his composure, his arm placed protectively on Finn's shoulders.

Then she turned her head to look back at Thomas. His eyes looked soft for once he was showing he cared, even when saddened he radiated pure power. Francis knew this intimidated everyone around but for her it made her feel safe, she felt wanted. His arm was gently wrapped around her waist, she could feel his thumb tapping in a short rhythm on her side.

He was nervous.

From the corner of her eye Francis spotted Karl plucking flowers from the grave of another. She rushed to grab the boy and take the flowers from his hands.

"We mustn't take flowers, Karl. These are to show respect" gently she placed the flowers back down and headed to find Ada.

When she had found her, Polly was already there chastising Thomas for speaking about business on such a solemn day.

Or that's what she thought she was saying.

To ease the tension she walked over and interrupted the arguing, reaching her hand to grasp Tommy's he instantly snapped out of his mood.

Karl held tightly onto the girls dress and smiled softly up at her "found him taking flowers from a grave..." she spoke as she handed Karl back to his mother.

Ada's face scrunched up "Karl that's not very nice of you," after a moment of chastising the young boy she turned her attention back to Thomas "I won't be coming back to small heath, Tom. I don't belong to anyone, not anymore." With that she spun on her heel and left.
