The phone started to ring and it rang for a while. I couldn't think of anything that Brad could possibly be doing... not even practice. I hung up and waited a couple of minutes before I called Brad again. This time, Brad actually picked up, "Hello?" asked Brad.

"Brad, I need to talk to you." I stated.

"About what?" he questioned.

"Well, I would like to inform you that you're now my best friend. Also, that Dougie and I broke up," I informed him. Brad was the only other person that knew about Dougie and I; I trusted him with our secret... So far, it's worked out pretty good.

"I knew it!" Brad yelled. I fell silent; he knew that Dougie and I were going to break up? Were we really that bad of a couple? "I didn't mean I knew you and Dougie would break up. I just knew that... You know what, I'm just going to quit while I'm ahead," he decided.

"Great plan," I agreed.

"If you don't mind me asking... Do you know why he broke it off with you? Really, you're an awesome girl and you really loved him. There had to be a specific reason." He explained.

"I don't know the exact reason. Tyler... He told Dougie something and it wasn't true; I could tell from the way he was acting when I stated 'I didn't know what he was talking about'." I stated.

I felt a bit weird telling Brad why we broke up. Sure, he's a great guy friend - well, know he's my best friend. Back to my point, have you read those books about a girl being best friends with a guy? If you have, than you know she tells him about the cute guy she likes. Then, the guy thinks the girl is messed up in the brain. That's what I think when I tell Brad that.

"Did you talk to Chara about your situation?" he questioned.

"I haven't tried." I said.

"Talk to him," suggested Brad.

"I will."

"You better or I'll talk to him," he stated.

"You?" I questioned.

"Yep," he mumbled.

"Yes Brad, you should talk to him about my problems and about what happened; because you know one hundred percent about what happened between us. Go and do that," I recommended.

"There's no need for sarcasm or hate." He told me. "But seriously, talk to Chara; or I'll talk to him for you."

"Brad, don't talk to him-" Brad cut the line on me... Gee thanks best friend.

I threw my phone on the bed and watched T.V. I watched anything I could find; I started to watch the Discovery Channel. You learn new things every day. My phone started to ring; I checked the caller ID and accepted the call.

"He didn't listen to you, did he?" I questioned.

"Nope," stated Brad as he popped the 'p'.

"Was I right, or was I right?" I sassed.

"Shut up."

"I'm sorry. What did Chara tell you? You know, before he hung up?" I asked.

"Yeah... I forgot." He said.

"This is why I should have just talk to Zdeno. You can't remember anything... you have a short term memory." I told him.

"Shut up," he repeated.

I rolled my eyes. Brad has terrible comebacks; he didn't know anything to say. Brad always had the problem. He could "talk the talk" but couldn't "walk the walk". That's one of the reasons why Brad and I are best friends.

I looked at my new and improve boyfriend list. Compared to last time, it's way more improved... I guess I did have nothing better to do; so I dug deep and found things I really want in a guy. I dropped my pen as I finished writing the last point. Then, there was a large boom on my door.

I looked at the door and slowly walked towards it. I looked through the peephole in the door and looked to see who it was. I let out a sign of relief; I opened the door and saw Zdeno there. His face was dark and his eyes were full of anger. Was that pointed to me?

"I found a breaking point in the case," he told me.

The case? "Good morning detective, Chara. What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Brad told me about what's going on with you and Dougie. I wasn't going to come all the way to Edmonton to fix it. But, Brad mentioned Tyler's name in his sentence... After that, I came straight to Edmonton to help you," he explained.

"Yep... Tyler said something to Dougie and now we're not together," I said.

Zdeno nodded and placed his hands on his hips. His eyes moved to the desk I was at. He walked into the room and looked at the piece of paper. "What's this?" he questioned.

"It's my new and improved 'List of things that would make a guy suitable to be my boyfriend'." I told him.

"Maybe abbreviate it," recommended Zdeno.

"It doesn't matter what the title is... Only if the list makes sense." I told him.

Zdeno picked the paper up and started to silently read it.

1) He's a Hockey Player

2) He loves for Bruins

3[3]) He likes Chara

4) He's smarter than a 5th grader ;)

5) He's funny

6) He's easy to talk to

7) He's considerate

8) He'll put up with my weirdness

9) He's not self-absorbed

10) He doesn't hate people for no reason

11) He's not Tyler

"I like number three... that's my favourite one." He admitted. "Number eleven is also really smart too."

"He'll never be able to find a loophole," I smiled.

"This is why you're my best friend," he confessed.

"I'm your best friend?" I questioned with dis-belief.

"Well, no exactly. Tuukka is more of a good friend than you are. Then, there's Tim. So, you're my third best friend... but you're up there," he explained.

I laughed. "Do you know where Tyler's room is?" asked Zdeno.

I shook my head, "I have no idea."

"I'll be back; I'll knock some sense into that kid. Literally. Well, not until I find out where his room is." He said as he closed the door and left. Zdeno's going to go and punch Tyler... I wish I could see that after what he did to me.

But, I will get Dougie back. If there's a will... there's a way.

His Name Is... DougieWhere stories live. Discover now
