My head feels like it's going to explode, sit up in my bed to hear voices screaming. I quickly stand hearing a vase of some sort shatter on the ground.
"You disgust me" a voice seethes.
"Zev-" mother starts.
"Why didn't I know sooner, do you know how much power she possesses? I felt that from my throne room" he barks
" I didn't have a choice, Zev. I would have never left her on my own. "
" What do you mean you don't have a choice? Nifemi I've lived every single day of my cursed life knowing I had a child running around Pyran. I've had special ops searching for her."
"Stop" My mother whispers
"You're the reason I'm the way I am, you broke me and you took the one thing that could fix me."
Another vase shatters and as I hid in my room I couldn't tell if it was my father or mother that had shattered it. I could hear my mother's quiet sniffles.
"I'm twisted, I'm sick, I'm grotesque all because of you Nifemi. You took the love I had for you and shattered it. You gave up on me, you gave up on her and you know it!"
I pause, should I go in and stop this? I wasn't sure, all I knew was I was too weak to stand up to my father. The rage he was displaying was odd, it was like he was restraining himself.
"I never wanted to! It wasn't me that dragged myself back here. Or was it me that sent Varlene to attack me and Yemisi while we were struggling in the streets? She nearly killed us both, how dare you pin this on me!"
The room was still and silent except for the heavy breathing from both parties.
"I never wanted her, you know?" My father sighs
My mother scoffs and I can imagine she gives him the same looks she gives me when I lie to her.
"No use lying" she adds
"She makes my predicament worse, the shadows have never been this hard for me to control. Our power has always been more elusive and hard to control than yours. I've done unspeakable things, I can only hope Yemisi doesn't follow in my path" my father explains
I snorted, trust me, I knew what control was and he had less of it than a 5-year-old in a candy shop. He was driven by impulse. Everything I did and owned was precise, from my calculation to the tip of my knives.
Before I knew it the door swung open. I was faced with the two people who failed me the most and wanted to have a verbal sparring match on who did it the most. Newsflash, both of you ruined my life.
I strut past my father and sit by my mother, call me biased but I choose her over the man who had me chained up in a chair in a rusty old dungeon. I clasp her hand adding more insult to injury.
"So you were awake?" my fathers ask eyebrow raised.
I roll my eyes, I wasn't here for his useless attempt at small talk.
His eyes slowly turn pitch black and then back into their regular lighter black color.
"Let's talk about your outburst then," he says quietly.
I glanced at my mother. He wasn't serious, why would I bring up what got us in this mess in the first place?
"No" I reply simply.
"No.." He mimics clenching his jaw.
He slowly rolls his head, and gone is the pitiful father in his sleep the Nightmare King awakens. His veins go black through his deathly pale skin while his eyes go back to their familiar pitch-black state.
