The pain was the first thing I noticed when I had woken in a flimsy nurse gown and had tubes attached to my arms. I studied the room I had been placed in. It was a dark room. It had one small window that had bars over it. It seemed my captors had thought I would try to escape. Their assumption was correct; I had yanked out the clear wires stuck in my body and stood searching for some sort of exit.
The room was small, and the only door used to enter and exit was locked from the outside. I had thought of kicking the door down, but that would attract too much attention.
I brought myself to stare outside. I hadn't been out in two years. I missed the world even though it was cruel. The shadows that surrounded our country had become worse since I had last seen them. It had taken more territory; they'd been there long before I was born, but they had never moved so much as they had now.
I caught a glimpse of the tiny guards standing outside and knew I had made it to the palace. The last place I wanted to be. If there weren't a window, my temptation to jump out of one would be fulfilled.
A slight rasp at the door had shaken me out of my thoughts. I was silent; I didn't have the freedom to allow someone to enter the room.
Tunji closes his eyes as he stumbles into the room. I smile. At least he was here. I wouldn't say I liked the presence of the other royals I've met.
" You can open your eyes, Tunji" I chuckle
He opens his eyes and smiles.
" How are you? You must be exhausted. " He gulped, taking a seat next to me.
I shrug. The pain was there, but I've been through worse.
"I'm fine."
He studies my arm and scowls.
"You really like being close to death," he scolds
I roll my eyes; doesn't he get tired of nagging me. Although there was a year difference between us, I felt like he acted like my dad, repeatedly correcting me.
He murmurs under his breath before staring at me with an eyebrow raised
"You don't have to worry; I'm not going to tell anyone, and I doubt Zayn remembers anything."
I shake my head in confusion.
"What are you even talking about?"
Tunji frowns.
"I saw you, Yemi, don't lie. "
I huff. Did he always have to be so over dramatic?
"Tunji," I enunciated while patting his back, "I haven't the slightest idea of whatever you are talking about."
Tunji shakes me lightly
"Yemi, you summoned light."
I stood abruptly; I couldn't have. No one native to Pyran has the ability. Only people from Celestia could summon light, and only a few of them could. It was part of the reason Pyran had hated Celestia. They had the power to remove the shadows plaguing the land, yet they refused.
We have had a rivalry since our two countries had formed. It started between two members of the founders of each country, who later became the first royal family.
"Tunji, are you sure," I question, running my hands through my hair
He nods silently, and I curse. I was dead if I couldn't get out of here. The King didn't seem like his patience needed to be tested again. I tug at my hair while Tunji pats my back.
