I groan as I woke up tied up to a brown wooden chair. My neck was on fire as the rest of my body ached from being in such an uncomfortable position. I watch the King as he sits in front of me -comfortable. He runs his hands on the black leather armrest while grinning at me. It was the closest I would get to a genuine smile." Yemisi," He says dragging out every syllable in my name" You disappoint me"
I chuckle and open my mouth to speak but think otherwise as this signature smoke wisps around the cell.
"You can summon light, " he says still grinning eerily
Once again I stare in silence what was I supposed to say? If he was going to kill me, he shouldn't take his sweet little time with it.
His demeanor changes at my silence, and he slams the chair into a nearby wall. Sending splinters of wood scattering across the room.
"Who are your parents? " he demands
I look at the ground , that's where I'd like to imagine they are. He steps closer to me and repeats himself only this time the threat is clear in his eyes.
" I'm an orphan" I reply nonchalantly
He shakes his head quickly.
" There is no record of your birth, Yemisi" He explains
I stare at him in confusion, I was alive that's all the proof he needed. Besides, did he think if I had the choice I'd mooch around in Pyran of all places?
I shrug. and stare him in the eyes harshly, my wrists were starting to hurt. Pain and I don't mix well together, last time someone had hurt me she ended up knocked out— cold.
" So I ask yet again, who are your parents?"
"I told you already," I growl" I'm an orphan"
The smoke continues to grow, and he disappears, but I no longer care. What's the worse he could do? I stare into his eyes until I blink and everything is black. I hear in cackling my head as sit in confusion. Was he in my head?
I sit quietly for what seemed like eons until I'm able to see again. His body forms from the ash-like smoke the envelopes the small enclosure.
"Nife" He whispers
I stare and him and laugh internally. Was I that messed up that I was giving the King of Pyran flashbacks? He watches me and studies me intently before striding out of the cell leaving me alone in the dark cell.
I scowled my plans always worked, it must have been Tunji's fault we were caught. He must be being tormented by all the royal minions upstairs. He did help me escape and went against a direct order from the King. Knowing those ancient scum they'd choose to give him a harsh punishment he didn't deserve.
My freedom had been so close yet so far, I could have tasted it. I was becoming too sloppy; it was hard enough that I was losing my edge and abrasiveness. Now my survival skills were lacking. If I had been at the facility, no one would have been able to touch me, and I'd be long gone.
I sit and watch as the harsh snow billows through the air. The window began to crack at the pressure of the wind. Seeing as the King had left, I hastily relieve myself from my restraints. Though I wasn't alone the Prince makes his way down the filthy steps, greeting me with his signature smirk.
"I knew there was something more to you" He laughs
He saunters around the room waving his hands and clapping. It was like he was drunk—no he had to be, the uncoordinated walking, the sloppy getup. It was obvious he was a walking drunkard
