'True' ending
"Yeah, we've stolen a car before, I think we can pull it off."
"Alright, what's the plan?" Ichigo asked, now resorting to throwing the remaining snacks out of the window as a means of diversion, by far not very effective, but admittedly better than nothing. You pondered, then started by pressing the brake harshly and twisting the steering wheel right.
Ichigo jolted in his seat, rapidly raising his arms to prevent smashing his face into the headboard. "The plan is to give me enough brain damage so that they put me in hospital instead of prison?" He asked sarcastically, not bothering with the seatbelt.
You ignored him, jumping out of the car with his gun and not waiting for him to follow, you could hear him catching up to you around ten meters away and shouting warnings about how the police would shoot you as soon as they got close enough. You interrupted him by firing a clumsy shot at the man, missing completely, but scaring him enough so that when you demanded his car keys, he threw them in your direction and ran after his wife and kids.
You caught them midair, gave yourself an imaginary pat on the back, then high-fived Ichigo and got into the car. You sped off, wary that there would once again be police after you soon, no way that guy was going to let your grand theft auto stunt slip.
"So, Ichigo, why are we going back to your house?" You asked once you calmed your breathing. He hummed and stretched.
"You'll see when we get there."
"We left our wedding certificate in Cathy's car."
"I know."
"We're not going to go and get it back?"
"We won't be needing it, we're married either way."
You tried to ease the tenseness in the atmosphere by cracking a joke, "till death do us part ammiright?" You forced a dry laugh, but there was no humour in Ichigo's expression.
"No, death won't keep me from you."
The remainder of the drive was silent, and you managed to park the car smoothly outside of Ichigo's house. There were no police sirens yet, which meant the man from earlier either hadn't called them, or they hadn't found you yet, but either way, you were safe for now.
"We're here, sooo what are we doing now?" You asked. There was still something off about Ichigo, and there had been since you'd left the theme park. This certainly wasn't his first scrape with death, so was he so nervous because it was easier to get caught with you involved and with no one else to help him?
"You're going to go to the attic and wait for me up there, turn the light on if you want, but close the hatch." Ichigo instructed, unlocking the front door, having to feel around for the keyhole.
"Why?"
"Just do it."
And instructions from Ichigo, as you knew from experience, were not to be disobeyed. You sat anxiously against the slanted wall, more uncomfortable by the lack of knowing what Ichigo was doing than the awkward angle of the ceiling, and perhaps your nervousness was the reason you were sweating.
At some point, you heard drawn out sirens in the distance, and started fidgeting. Just when you thought you couldn't wait any longer, Ichigo appeared through the hatch. He held a bottle of water in his hand, and dropped down next to you.
"Ichigo, can you smell gasoline?"
"You know that I love you, right?" Ichigo didn't answer your question. You didn't respond. "You understand that anything I do, I do it for you, to do what's best for you." You didn't answer. "On the ride, the last one, were you scared?"
To this, you knew how to reply. "It was scary when it was happening, but after it was over, it wasn't so bad, it was over really fast when I look back on it." Ichigo nodded, and unscrewed the bottle cap.
Then you realised.
But by then, Ichigo had poured half of the contents onto your head, and the rest onto himself. It wasn't water. It was gasoline. He held onto you tightly, and kept a death grip as your eyes darted around the room.
Now you could see the source of the heat. Fire hugged the walls. Smoke wound its tendrils around you. The heat made your eyes water, or maybe it was the fear. The sound of sirens was deafening now, and gave the impression of being under the influence. They say that your life flashes before your eyes when you die, but you were painfully stuck in the present, and this was all too real.
"Don't panic, y/n," Ichigo said, "it's scary now, and it'll hurt a little bit, but it's okay,
it'll only take a moment."
