It had been a while since the small town of Beacon Hills had felt any supernatural waves or peril, so life had begun to mellow out into as normal a rhythm could be had for the werewolf, his hunter girlfriend, and their oddball best friends. Lydia had decided to throw a party at her house, seeing as her parents would be away.
It was already dark when Scott and Stiles arrived, hearing the music for what felt like miles before they even reached her neighborhood. They made their way through the crowd, both trying to spot anyone they really knew past acquaintance level. When they made it to the back deck, wrapping around the pool, they spotted Lydia, Allison, and ___ all perched at the water's edge with their legs partially submerged.
Allison was the first to spot her handsome boyfriend, waving him and Stiles over as the other two took notice. Once both were in earshot, Allison smiled up at them. "Hey, guys!"
Scott smiled dopily and plopped onto the stone beside her, snaking an arm around her waist and kissing her. ___ rolled their eyes and Lydia's face remained unimpressed. "Hey, Stiles," ___ perked up, leaning forward on their legs so they could see around Lydia as Stiles took a seat beside her.
"Hey." His awkward demeanor didn't go unnoticed by the party's host, smirking deviously as an idea lit in her head. "I think it's time to play a game. Come on." The strawberry blonde stood briskly, shaking the water from her legs before marching into the house. The other four shared a confused look before scrambling to follow her. When they found her, she stood in the center of the uncharacteristically empty living room. She called for the few people previously in the room's attention, announcing they were going to play truth or dare.
They all sat in a circle with the semi-strangers, watching as Lydia took her seat between Allison and ___. She expressed to the room that nothing was off limits and to reach into the depths of your imagination to make the game interesting. With the boundaries out of the way, the game began. Lydia took the first turn, obviously, and asked one of the strangers. The questions and dares bounced around the circle until they landed on ___.
"Truth or dare?"
They smirked and mocked a thoughtful look before glancing back at Scott. "Truth."
Stiles seemed to stiffen, his eyes boring into Scott's. It looked as if he was trying desperately to explode him when in reality he wanted his best friend to understand what he wanted him to ask them without giving it away too much. Though he was severely failing on the subtly side of it. Scott seemed to get the hint and turned back to ___.
"Do you have a crush on anyone?"
Lydia scoffed at the level of basic questioning the wolf boy could muster, but ___ beat her to the punch. "What is this? Fifth grade? Yea, I have a crush." They rolled their eyes and chuckled, Stiles perked up. "Who is it?" Scott's eyes darted between Stiles and ___.
"Nope, you asked your question!" ___ smirked and glanced around the circle. "Lydia, truth or dare?"
"Unlike you, I'm not boring. Dare, obvi."
"I dare you to do three shots of your choice." ___ mirrored Lydia's smile. "Finally, now we're getting interesting. You know which one I want."
___ hopped up and stepped into the kitchen, pouring three shots of Lydia's preferred tequila. They came back with the shots in their hand, carefully passing them to the girl who downed them with little reaction. "Better."
The game went on for several more rounds. Dares of making out, stripping, drinking, smoking, anything a wild teenager could think of really. As half the guests began filtering out, only the five friends were left. Allison and Scott were whispering between each other, both their eyes flickering between Stiles and ___. "So, ___ truth or dare?"
___ looked up to her, their vision slightly blurry from the little alcohol in their system. "Hmm, Dare." They smiled and rubbed their eyes, focusing back on Allison as she smiled. "I dare you to tell us your crush."
"We're really back to this? Ugh, whatever. You two aren't very clever." Lydia sighed as she turned to face ___, who was blushing and slowly pulling their legs up to their chest. "Uhh... yea that's kinda boring." They agreed, desperate to change the subject, which only drove the two further. "Come on, just tell us."
"Stiles, Truth or Dare." They turned to the boy who looked like he could fall off the edge of his seat had he not been on the floor. "No, you didn't tell us!" Allison pointed an accusing finger at them, watching them glare back at her. "Yes, I did."
Lydia was the first to get it, followed closely by Allison. "Wait, what?" Stiles looked between the girls as Allison whispered back to Scott who smiled at him. "Truth or Dare?"
Stiles looked at each one before the realization dawned on him. "O-Oh! Uhh, dare?"
___ glanced down at their hands, unable to meet his gaze as he stared at them in anticipation. "I dare you to kiss the prettiest person in the room."
Now Stiles was bright red, eyes darting around the room as he tried to garner the courage. "Like o-objectively or the prettiest person to me?"
"To you is fine." They shrugged, resting their chin atop their knees. The nerves made their hands shake, quickly noticing and hiding them between their legs before anyone else could see. They watched Stiles stand on his knees and scoot closer. With every second that passed, ___ could feel themself growing more anxious, even though they were sure he was going to kiss Lydia. He'd had a crush on her since third grade, really them asking this was just torture. But they couldn't help the spark of hope that ignited in their stomach when his eyes met theirs.
It was like time slowed around them, seeing him leaning closer to them. He got closer until their faces were inches apart. Stiles hesitated, glancing from their lips to their eyes and seeing the flickering flame of hope deep beneath them. The sight gave him a small boost of confidence, driving him to press their lips together. The kiss lasted seconds, but for ___ it was enough to drive them insane. He pulled back and returned to his previous position.
The room was completely silent as the two had finally kissed until Lydia clapped to garner everyone's attention. "Well, I'm bored and since pretty much everyone has left, feel free to stay the night. I have two guest rooms, split amongst yourselves." With that, the party host disappeared upstairs.
Scott and Allison stood up quickly, hand in hand as they looked down at their two blushing friends. "Goodnight guys."
The two echoed distant goodnight's back before they were the only ones left. Stiles glanced up at ___ who quickly diverted their eyes back to the floor before them. "You can take the bedroom, I'll sleep on the couch."
___ glanced up at him and shook their head. "I dunno, it gets kinda lonely up there." A small smile spread across their lips as they slowly stood, holding their hand out to the brunette. He cautiously took it, standing with their assistance and following them up the stairs.
After each took a turn to change into their pajamas, they crawled under the covers, silently gazing at one another under the pale light of the moon. The sounds of crickets chirping eased the tension in the room, ___ reaching their hand up to cup Stiles's cheek. As he leaned into the touch, he slid his arms around their waist, pulling them closer until their bodies were pressed firmly together.
They eventually drifted off to sleep as the alcohol and energy wore off, cuddling close together until the sun arose.
