Luke Hemmings as Luke Hemmings

"From what I heard, the family was barely recognizable as every limb was ripped apart". I tried to ignore Beth's constant ramble about the murder on Spooner Street last night. It gave me enough nightmares and sleepless hours just knowing a ripper was in town. As soon as I woke up, Ashton gave me a knife and warned me about strangers and to not hesitate to run or call for help when the sitation required it.

To top it off, the murder was the talk of the school as the principal sent out an email to all parents and students saying that police will be scouting the area and to make sure students are not out after dusk.

With all the anxiety, I seriously did not need Beth and her curious mind set constanly bringing up the tabooed topic every second she saw me.

"I mean what psychopath would tear off a woman and her children's legs and arms clean off their bodies?" she continued. "You know I heard they are still looking for one of the children's ribs". "Beth!" I exclaimed as I placed my dance bag in my locker. I glared at her and she simply raised her arms in defense. "Oh come on!" She said, "surely you are wondering the same thing". I raised an eyebrow at her as I took my binder and notebooks out of my bookbag. "Well I can't say I was thinking about a kid's missing rib", I countered, "nor did I want to. So could we please just drop it and go to class. I feel like I'm gonna have a panic attack if this keeps up". I slammed the blue locker shut as I held my supplies closely to my chest and walked passed her with a sigh and a hand through my scarlet hair.

The soft squeak of sneakers on tile signalled me that Beth caught up as her hand reached my shoulder and turned me to face her. She gave me an apologetic look. "Hey, I'm sorry. You aren't usually the one to freak out about something like this". I thought over her words, and she was right. I was the girl who would go all out on Halloween. The girl who forced her friends to go on the scary rides. The girl who volunteered to walk up to the Old Galland's house for a bet. I guess I just wasn't the type to get scared easily. Or atleast, not show it. I sighed and shook my head. "No I'm sorry," I said, "it's just, with my mom out and my protective brother, who has literally texted me forty times since I left the house, I have sort of gotten a little stressed out. And I am not gonna lie, the murder definetly has me spooked. I mean how can there be no suspects or clues"?

Beth nodded to me in understanding as we continued to walk down the hall. "Nah it's cool" she simply said. "I mean, I'm a bit creeped out myself. But I'm sure as long as we aren't stupid we will be ok". Her words were a tad unconvincing but I ignored it as we entered the giant front foyer. "Do you think we will have to reschedule the party this Saturday?" I asked. Beth tugged on my arm signaling me to stop as she looked into my eyes. "Hell to the no" she said emphasizing each syllable. "Calum's mom is spooked, but I already spoke to your brother and he said we could have it at your place. No way are you getting out of this". I furrowed my eyebrows at her comment, "But didn't you just say not to do anything stupid with a murderer on the loose".

She scoffed at my remark, "having a small party is not stupid Kat, in fact, if I was a murderer the last place I would go to was a house full of people". I raised an eyebrow at her, "I am sure that is what the mother and her kids thought to".

She was silent at my testimony. She seemed like she was about to counter my argument but stopped herself as we continued to walk down the foyer until Beth broke the silence.

"Hey who's that?" She said pointing to the left of us. I followed her finger to the direction it was leading to and saw a boy about my age with blonde hair and a small lip ring on the left corner of his bottom lip. He wore a black leather jacket, black skinny jeans, and black leather boots. The only other color in his attire was the plain white t-shirt he wore. He seemed bored and selfrightous as one of our assistant principal's spoke with him. "He's kind of cute", I heard Beth say. I shrugged keeping my eyes on the boy. "Yeah, but probably also bad news" I simply said. Beth scoffed, "please, anyone will be less 'bad news' than Zeke any day".
