My body froze as the demon approached. His eyes were were a deep crimson red as he slowly approached me, anger and hunger consuming his demeanor. Every step he made against the hard wood floor made my heart ache as at that moment. I could foresee my own death.
My body, dismembered and unrecognizable upon Luke's floor as he would hold an expression of bliss and satisfaction. I could see the newspaper reporting my absence and, shortly after, procuring my barely identifiable corpse in a ditch somewhere. The people at my funeral would be crying and fearful of the uncertainty of the cause of my premature death, as well as my best friend's deaths, whose bodies would be found in a similar state just days after my murder. Meanwhile, the homicidal maniac would be in another part of the world, grinning as he would lay his eyes on his next unfortunate victim.
The shortened distance between me and my grim reaper awakened me from my trance as I felt the cool metal of the bent and broken telescope in my hands. Luke was only a yard from me as adrenaline pumped through my veins. I quickly swung the golden object at the vampire.
The telescope did not meet its mark, as Luke caught the blow with his left hand, completely unphased by the force of the metallic object. His dark, evil eyes glared at me with a blank expression as his grip tightened around the cool metal, crushing it. Luke stripped me of my only weapon with the strength of a thousand men as his arm swung back, releasing the telescope from my grasp, and threw it across the room where it crashed through the dark wall.
A chill went through my spine as my airway was cut off from the strong hand around my throat and I was raised in the air, only centimeters from the edge of the broken window. My eyes buldged from my head as my hands scratched at his desperate for air. He's fast.
I felt the cool midnight breeze run through the back of my hair and spine as I began wheezing from the lack of oxygen. Luke's face was unreadable as his eyes seemed to study my face. "That was quite a little stunt you pulled", he said, his voice deep and ominous. "Perhaps I could replicate it". The cool breeze got stronger as Luke stepped closer to the window and my back was outside the opening. This was the end. It had to be. My vision became disoriented as I saw Luke form a smirk upon his lips. He pulled me back in and brought his mouth to my ear. "But that would be too easy".
The grip around my neck was released as I flew in the air from Luke's throw and landed with a loud thud on the floor across the room. My breathing returned very heavy and sporadic as I lifted my head slowly to see the doorway. "Oh no," he comtinued in a domimating tone, "there is so much more fun we could have with this, you know, before you croak". I weakly got up and stumbled towards the doorway as dizziness consumed me. I was sure I had a concussion. My left ankle and leg screamed in pain with every movement I made.
I heard maniacal laughter behind me as I gripped on the right side of the doorway for support. My breathing sounded like weak coughs as I could still feel Luke's grip upon my neck. I was sure there was going to be bruises there left over. "Let's make this a game, shall we Katherine"? There was a sadistic joy in his voice as I felt every fiber of my being tellimg me to get away but my body being unable to follow any command. "I will give you a minute head start to find a place to run and hide". I could feel the dark smirk Luke had and shivered slightly. "If I were you", he said coldly, "I would make sure I don't find you".
My body trembled at his words and my blurry vision was slowly recovering. I could feel a dark and heavy liquid on my abdoman and left thigh and my hand still stung from the cut. "Your time starts...now"!
Panic flew through me as I clumsily stumbled out of the room as eyes buldging out to find sanctuary. Luke counted down loudly as I could hear pleasure in his voice. "Sixty, fifty-nine, fifty-eight...". My hands grabbed on the dark walls for support as I painfully jogged through the corridor. The hallway had a long red velvet rug running through it as portraits of many individuals in 18th century attire hung from the dark walls with serious expressions. My hands found a railing for the stairs as I looked across the steps to see the front black front door. Hope and despair fled through me as I held onto the rail for support and ran down the steps.
