You were now standing on a rooftop that overlooked a busy late night market. There were hundreds of mortals walking the dusty streets making bargains and striking deals. You crouched down on the edge of the roof to watch a particular small shop that was selling spices, and you inhaled the wonderful exotic scents that smelled similar to the ones back home.

Khonshu watched your excitement grow as you moved to look at another stall with pastries and snacks that the mortals of this region enjoyed. He felt a foreign feeling as you came over to him, babbling about wanting to explore the area, and to try their delicacies. He chuckled and used his magic to disguise you as one of the mortals, while he slipped into an Astral plane where you could see and hear him, but the humans could not.

You made your way down into the market, and happily flitted through the people to check out the various stalls of the bazaar. Despite not having any money, many of the sellers were freely giving you samples of their wares. They must have been charmed by your gift from Hathor. At one point, a man came up to you, and he tried to sweet talk you into following him into a dark alley, but Khonshu had scared the shit out of him by mimicking the cries of snarling jackals.

After that, the moon God warned you about men like him, ones with malicious intent. You understood, because after a few hours of traveling the darkened streets with him, you witnessed horrible things.

You watched a man get chased down the street for stealing bread to feed his family, and had Khonshu not intervened, the man would surely have been either killed, or lost a hand as punishment. Then you came upon a very drunk woman who was being led to a dark corner by two rough looking men. Again, Khonshu intervened before the woman was violated against her will. Both instances, the moon God had used the wind to scare them, and then he used psychic imagery to drive them off in a crazed stupor.

"I had no idea there were so many terrible people down here." You softly said to Khonshu as you sat on his shoulder, looking down at the quieting streets.

"Yes. Unfortunately humans have a history of evil within them. Not all of them are bad. Many of them are good. That's why I look after them, watching and protecting them from themselves, while the other Gods have stopped coming to help."

"Why would they stop helping?" You asked, feeling sad for the humans, and slightly salty towards your fellow Deities.

"They figure if the mortals stopped worshipping us, then they owe them nothing in return. I think that's asinine. We were here long before they were, and at the rate the humans are going, they will be around for millenias to come. Unfortunately, the other Gods don't get to see the flow of time the way I do. The humans will be around a lot longer than any of them would like to admit."
