I woke up to the sound of my blaring alarm. I groaned. I buried my face into my pillow, trying to hide from the morning sun that was shining through my window.
I heard a knock at my door a few seconds later. "Come In!" I shouted.
My mom walked in with a plate of fluffy pancakes. "Come on Hun, get up! It's the first day at your new school!" she said, trying to make me feel excited.
"Mom, stop. Nothing can make me excited to go to a brand new school where I will know nobody and make no new friends." I said, getting annoyed.
My mom sighed. "Sweetie, I know you miss your old friends but-"
"Of course I miss them!" I interrupted in an angry voice. I had switched schools after my parents decided it wasn't a good 'fit' for me. Mom thinks she knows everything about everything in my life. I sigh. "Fine, I'll get ready for school. But I don't have to like it."
Mom nods after a few moments and leaves, shutting my door behind her.
I get out of bed, take a shower in my bathroom, and put on my first day of school outfit.

I don't bother with any makeup and grab my blue backpack that is stuffed with brand new school supplies. I eat some of the breakfast that was sitting on my desk and proceeded to run down the stairs.
"Mornin', Dad!" I say when I see him at the table drinking coffee.
He looks up and smiles. "Hi Soph. Ready for your first day?"
I force a smile on my face and nod.
He sighs and gets up. "Do you want a ride? I'm going to work soon." He asks.
I shake my head. Maybe I'll meet some kids that live around here on the bus, I think to myself.
"I'm going to go to the bus stop." I say as I tie my shoes and grab the spare key.
"Alright, Hun." My mom says as she walks into the kitchen with her laptop. "Aww, Sophie! You look so cute and grown up!" She says as her eyes start to tear up.
I roll my eyes. Some things never change.
They both hug me goodbye, telling me that my new school is supposed to be great. I just nod and make my way out the door.
There is only one way to find out if that's really true. I sigh as I make my way to the bus stop.

It's honestly so weird to write a KotLC story in the human world! I keep wanting to put down the word 'Mallowmelt' instead of human foods like pancakes! 😂
