Carly Tan was on fire.
Not literally.
Yeah maybe she struck out once out of her 5 times at bat. But she hit 2 home runs, 1 single, and a triple.
Yup you heard it right!
A triple.
It was only the 3rd triple she's hit ever in her 4 years at Sherman Oaks High. The girl wouldn't consider herself a slow runner, but compared to the slappers, she was slow. But the defense was shifted towards the right, leaving a big hole in right field near the foul line.
To be honest, no one was expecting the girl to hit in that deep corner. The shift was on for a reason. But with one mistake from the pitcher, things didn't go as plan as the opposition wished it did.
The boy was right. Paxton Hall Yoshida was there in the stands, sitting this time. He was sitting next to her cousin. Speaking of her cousin, they still haven't talked. If he wanted to be a big baby, then so fucking be it. The girl did absolutely nothing wrong. And she was not apologizing.
Nope. Nope. Nope.
Sherman Oaks High School won 12-5, making them CIF champions. It was bittersweet as the girl watched her teammates huddle for the last time listening to what the coach wanted to tell us.
Trophy ceremony was happening soon.
The girl didn't care if she got MVP or not. The only thing she cared about was trying to enjoy as much of this moment as possible. The team was still young. There were only 5 seniors. It's safe to say the team is in good hands for the next few years.
Carly put her hand around Lily's shoulder, pulling her into a side hug. "I'm so fucking proud of you Lils."
Lily smiled, a tear falling down. Tears of joy, she promised. "Me too. I'm gonna miss this."
"Me too."
"I'm gonna miss playing with you."
"Me too."
The 2 best friends didn't say anything else other than standing there, side by side, hearing the announcers announce each player's name and handing them a small trophy.
"And your Most Valued Player is.... Carly Tan!"
The girl smiled as a few butt slaps were felt as she walked towards the front to accept the trophy that said MVP and her name on there. She immediately spotted her parents with the biggest smile on their faces, her mom blowing kisses while her dad gave her the thumb ups. Her brother even showed up and was waving a cut out picture of the girl.
A few rows behind she saw Eddie and Paxton. Eddie seemed like he forgot about their argument and was jumping up and down, cheering, and yelling 'that's my cousin'.
Then there was Paxton. The two immediately locked eyes. He mouthed something she couldn't quite read before blowing him a kiss and walking back to her teammates.
