"gyu you idiot, it's too big and obvious, do you have any cells left in that microscopic brain of yours?" wonwoo's lips fell to a wiry, thin line as jihoon continued to throw complaints mingyu's way. he disliked how the youngest of them all just stood and took any criticism directed towards him.
mingyu was a very sensitive person, and wonwoo was the only one who managed to notice this. he was a bundle of joy and in all means didn't belong anywhere near a gang.
he didn't belong, yet he forced himself to.
other members often took advantage of his naive and warming persona, used him as their punching bag whenever they were buried deep in their own shit.
"he's in charge of the vehicles, if you don't like the fact that he chose the van, you can walk," wonwoo grumbled as he pushed his glasses further up the bridge of his nose. a grimace evident on his face as jihoon's face became blank whilst he took a few steps backwards, his head moving in small nodding motions.
wonwoo linked arms with the youngest and began to walk to the opposing side of the vehicle. he reached out to open the door to the drivers seat and unlinked his and mingyu's arms before holding it out to guide the latter to the chair.
mingyu slipped himself into the van, whispering a small thank you before wonwoo closed the door.
wonwoo then opened the back door and climbed in himself, sitting himself on the row of chairs in the middle of the van- well, it was more of a mini bus, but mingyu insisted it to be a van, so everybody went with it- he sat in the middle chair, allowing jihoon to sit to the right of him. seungcheol sat up front with mingyu whilst jeonghan, jisoo and soonyoung all took the back three seats to themselves, clambering over jihoon in the process of getting to the back, despite the chair next to wonwoo being free.
mingyu had loaded the mini bus with weapons and items they may need- such as bullet-proof vests, gas grenades, etc- beforehand, meaning the three in the back chairs had minimal space compared to the others.
once everybody had settled in the vehicle, mingyu turned the ignition, coursing the van's engine to a rumble as somebody outside lifted the shutters to the garage. he rolled the vehicle onwards, signaling a thank you to the man outside as he settled off into the abyss of the night.
mingyu wasn't particularly fully focused due to the lack of sleep, but he tried his best not to make it obvious. soonyoung too, he had spent the hours up to this very moment doing anything to distract himself from the calling of slumber; those hours soon deeming useless as he felt his eyelids closing in on themselves whilst he used jeonghan's shoulder as a pillow. jeonghan knew he should shrug the younger off, he however, couldn't bring himself to do it.
the drive was long and daunting, nobody had spoken a word the whole way, and the remaining minutes ahead of them showed no sign of a conversation either.
just like the drive, the exiting the vehicle and equipping up was silent. people were helping one another here and there, yet everybody somehow kept to themselves, hoisting weapons over their shoulders and applying safety gear.
mingyu had to help jeonghan with his body armour seeing as the older had put it on backwards.
jisoo on the other hand was the first one to be ready. well, ready physically, but mentally? mentally he was in a complete different place. somebody he failed to recognise had handed him an ak-203 and left him in the dark. of course he knew how to use a gun, but use a gun to shoot actual people? no, jisoo couldn't do that; he had only shot targets made of metal, not humans made of flesh and bone.
and seokmin? did the person who gave him the gun expect him to shoot seokmin? whether the person had wanted him to or not, he wasn't going to.
the gang had their plan, but jisoo had his plan.
"alright, everybody geared up?" a woman whom none of the seven males recognised at first glance emerged from a jeep which had only just pulled up besides their van.
they had parked in a back alley towards the east of the main warehouse, followed by many, many other vehicles, all accompanied by tens of men and women ready as back up.
seungcheol was quick to get somewhat of an understanding of who she was, so he scurried forwards with his own gun in his left hand. he leaned forwards almost at a ninety degree angle, greeting her as he then backed up to his group as many other groups gathered, "yes ma'am."
"good, you, hurry up to the roof, we'll be out here in the case of things going south," she ushered seungcheol's group towards the very handily placed ladder which was up the side of the warehouse, leading to the roof which connected to each of the warehouses which lay side by side.
the seven of them climbed the ladder one after the other, seungcheol first, followed by jihoon, wonwoo, soonyoung, jeonghan, mingyu, then jisoo.
jisoo couldn't help but notice how badly mingyu had been trying to make his way up the ladder last. he didn't understand what was wrong with the younger, but there was definitely something bothering him. just the way he held his gun so tightly and the way he couldn't stand still screamed something was wrong. the way his eyes jittered from his feet to his surroundings.
he was afraid.
of what? jisoo couldn't quite hit the nail on the head. he knew that mingyu had been doing this for a few years now, and he knew that mingyu had strength, and he certainly had the bravery, jisoo had noticed that during their training. but something about him had changed in the span of a few mere minutes.
one thing sticking out to jisoo the most, was how mingyu had turned into wonwoo's shadow, sticking to him like a leech, not letting the older out of his sight.
"gyu, get to work," jihoon spoke as they were all now stood in a circle, surrounding a specific metal sheet upon the roof. the sheet looked out of place, like it had been moved before, and somebody did a terrible job of covering it up.
mingyu nodded, taking a look back towards wonwoo before stepping towards the centre of their circle, bending down whilst everybody else either stood and waited, or like jisoo and jeonghan, stared up at the blank canvas of what appeared to be the early morning sky.
"and remember everyone, only resort to your weapons if completely necessary," seungcheol squatted besides mingyu as the younger pulled out a screwdriver, using the tool to unscrew the bolts attaching the singular sheet of metal they had chosen as their entrance, "it'd be much better for us to go in quietly, take the jewel quietly, then leave quietly," he tried to drag his words on as he noticed mingyu seemingly struggling with the task he had been given due to his hands not staying in one place, he didn't know whether it was the cold or not, but they wouldn't stop trembling.
"hurry up we haven't got all-"
"here, let me help," wonwoo uttered in a low tone as he slowly lowered himself forwards and onto his knees besides mingyu. he hadn't intended to perch besides the younger so closely, it just happened, and mingyu was first to notice this as a sheepish grin formed upon his lips as the warmth of the older's shoulder and knee collided with his own.
wonwoo unscrewed the bolts with ease, retracting from the sheet and turning to look at mingyu, "gyu you need to get serious now, we're in enemy territory, so you need to keep your guard up," he spoke as he held the younger's shoulders to spin him to the side allowing him access to his small backpack where he returned the screwdriver. once he had closed the bag he raised to his feet, sending a small nod to seungcheol.
seungcheol then lay either of his hands on parts of the metal sheet, sliding it across so there was now a single hole in the roof of the warehouse. "are we ready?" he took a look at each and every one of the people around him, earning nods from each of them.
some more confident than the others, some not knowing what to expect.
