Song: Notion - The Rare Occasions
The next day, Michelle became astonished when she opened the door at 11 AM, Sage was still asleep, and was taken by Aelin's arms. They hugged each other for long seconds like it had been months since the last time they met, recapturing everything they loved in each other, the smell, the hit texture, the voice, the feeling of bending over or standing on fingertips to kiss each other...
After a silent make-out in the kitchen and in the living room that almost end up in sex, Michelle, on top of Aelin, hugged their body as she heard their heartbeat and Aelin messed with her hair. They noticed she fell asleep and the thumb that was caressing her skin stopped moving. They almost fell asleep as well, sort of absorbing Michelle's tiredness, but at that moment Sage left her bedroom.
"Oh my god, you scared me!" Aelin just laughed and apologized. "Is Michelle sleeping?"
"Yeah."
"Since when?"
"Like thirty minutes ago?"
"No. Since when has she been like this?"
"Oh... I went to the hospital with her in October."
"Fuck..." Sage sighed.
"She'll be fine. The next results are going to be positive."
A sip of jealousy was persuading Sage, as she broke the eggs on the hot pan. She tells them everything! I feel like the monster of the story.
Michelle didn't imagine New Year's Eve to be an amazing and fun time, she accepted to go to the party she wasn't aware of the magnitude to avoid questions or be a burden to Sage, who would stay at home even if Michelle begged her to go.
"Tell me if you don't feel well, okay?" Sage smiled at her roommate when they stepped onto the porch.
"I'm feeling fine." She lied, imagining already herself in a corner or abandoned room, watching anime or sleeping for hours, haunted by headaches and fever.
She didn't expect people to notice her sickness either but that's because she hadn't properly observed the sucked cheeks on her face through the mirror, the dry and pale lips...
It took a while for them to find someone known, Sage guiding Michelle between the crowd in Jonathan's parents' enormous living room. Upstairs they bumped into Anna and Amerie, casually chatting.
"Hey, girls!" Sage approached, smiling and passing her eyes on every corner hoping to find Cole's presence.
"Sage! Michelle! Hm..."
"Are you sick?" Amelie asked what Anna was about to.
Michelle answered right away, forbidding Sage to open her mouth. "Flu," she declared.
"You cut your hair?" Anna noticed.
"Yeah..."
When Hannele came out of the bathroom they were in front of, Michelle and Sage were led to the last bedroom at the end of the corridor. Nia, Eli, Kamala, Kai, and Cole were chilling in this abandoned-looking room. The in-love green met the hurt but also lost in love brown. Sage's heart jumped, chills ran all over her body, it felt like they hadn't seen each other for months, and for that reason, that meeting felt impacting and painful as well.
It was only a couple of milliseconds where Sage and Cole's eyes touched each and everybody else had just disappeared. "I'm not staying here!" Michelle groaned next to Sage, with her eyes laid on her boyfriend, and left.
Now there was the moment Sage had to choose: follow her sick best friend and roommate that is in love with her or stay next to Cole, the guy who she was in love with but had kissed Nia. It wasn't hard to realize that the logical option was the first one. However, Sage wanted to grow out of Michelle's circle, and show her for once that she hadn't any romantic feelings for her. Even though tough, that was the truth, one that needed to be accepted.
