Monday December 20th, 1942
Christmas Day I decided to throw the biggest ball to have our final ball for the foreseeing future. We had Christmas lights, mistletoe, trees, and candles. The maids and butlers spent all morning and all night for two weeks setting up for Christmas and for the ball. It was a masquerade ball so everyone was to wear a mask and the theme was reds and blacks and greens. The ballroom was decorated head to toe in garlands and lights and paintings and fresh pine and pine cones. The room smelt like cinnamon and peppermint. My son was now 6 months old and Jasper was now 6 years old, he was no longer the 5 year old toddler he was now a child he may have grown a year but in his mind he grew three. Jasper has been through things I never could have imagined. He became quiet and reserved instead of joyful and boisterous as normal. Part of it concerned me but another part of me was sure he was okay. Once he got wind of this ball he immediately started planning his outfit with his father and he wanted all of us to match in some way. Umbris for the first time in months was lively and full of laughing and giggling and running and joy. Everyone was so excited for this ball and for the Christmas season, Edmund had gone from being a hard baby with all the screaming and crying to a whole different baby. He was calm and hardly ever cried. He loved to laugh and giggle. He loved toys and his papa and especially his momma. If he was anything he was definitely a mommas boy. Everything was going perfect until December 20th when I received another letter from King Leonard.

"Serena, I'm afraid I have some pitiful news." Charlie said. I held Edmund in my arms and placed him in the crib. Jasper and Oliver were both outside playing with the other boys and girls while I took care of stuff for the ball and some other queen duties. Once I had placed Edmund in the crib I walked over to Charlie and he handed me a letter I looked down and plainly written across the top it was addressed to me from king Leonard. I took a sucking breath and opened the letter. It read.

Dear Queen Serena,

It has come to my attention that none of my attempts to scare you have worked and my attempts to kidnap your boys to scare you also was not successful. This saddens me. I put great faith in my workers to be able to succeed in their tasks. As none of them have succeeded I wasted no time sending more. I will not stop until you and my son and your blasted children are dead and your bodies 6 feet in the ground rotting forever. Mark my words just because it is Christmas I will not take pity on you. I heard about your little ball on Christmas. I was quite offended that I did not get an invitation. And you can let Oliver know that he mother is well, let's just say his mother went missing a few nights ago. If she does not return to prophis in three days time I will send for three men to find her and to kill her. Mark my words Serena I will do whatever I see fit to win this war even if it means I have to kill each and every person in our kingdoms combined that or I will die trying. You are destined to fall and I will make sure it is by my hands. I will kill you no matter how long or what force it takes. Your days are numbered.

Sincerely, Your Murderer.

I slammed the letter on the counter and Charlie picked it up and began reading. I looked out the window in pure frustration. My blood was boiling and if Charlie wasn't here things would have been thrown. I sighed and tilted my head backwards trying to drain out the frustration. It sounded stupid but it's what I always did ever since I was a Child.

"What are we gonna do?" He asked. I turned to look at him with my arms folded.

"We aren't gonna do anything, the people are excited about Christmas and the holidays and I'm not going to drown that out by worry and terror about a threatening letter. So we will remain calm. We will keep this between us like the original letter and we won't panic, if anything happens we keep calm and handle it like adults." I replied.

"I won't let a pathetic and cowardly king Instill fear in me or my people. We are the kingdom of prophis and I won't let anyone take that away from us." Charlie smiled and nodded.
