Today was the day. Haeun sat impatiently in her chair, biting the skin on her lips and tapping her foot on the ground. Beside her were about twenty other young girls, all equally looking as nervous as Haeun. She held an unfolded letter in her shaking hands, the letters 'JYP' sprawled out on the top.
In the summer, Haeun had auditioned for the small company 'JYP' after Felix practically forced her into it when she entertained the thought for a week. She didn't take the audition seriously and thought she hadn't made the cut until a letter arrived for her two weeks ago saying she had a second audition. Of course Haeun was happy and beyond grateful that she was chosen but she felt so unprepared. The two weeks she had before the audition really wasn't enough time for her to perfect the song and dance she had chosen.
She didn't bother to mention the audition to the others. It was something she wanted to keep between her and Felix- at least until a later date when she could look back on it and laugh. The last thing she wanted was to be embarrassed, even though Haeun was sure the boys wouldn't do that.
Around her there were small huddles of girls, some were singing softly to themselves others were showing each other their dances and receiving last minute advice. Every so often a young girl would emerge from inside the audition room either in tears or squealing in delight.
After waiting in the room for half an hour, a lady dressed in a smart skin-tight white dress and a loose black blazer walked into the room. Her high heels colliding on the floor caught everyone's attention as the room soon fell silent.
"Lee Haeun?" She called after a brief glance to the clipboard in her hands.
Haeun's eyed widened and she immediately stood up, bowing to her before following her into the room. The walk to the audition room couldn't have felt slower to Haeun. Her heart was pounding in her ears and she was ten times more nervous than before. Silently, she pictured the dance choreography she had learned for her song and subconsciously did small movements from the dance.
The room was similar to a normal practice room, however there were 3 people sat at the back of the room, stone cold expressions on their faces. Two men, one woman. The attention Haeun was given immediately made her question as to why she would put herself through this trauma. The lady who had escorted her into the room silently left the room and Haeun hesitantly made her way further into the room. She masked her nervousness and bowed to the people in front of her as she had been judged by them before.
"Lee Haeun, am I right?" An older lady questioned, glancing to the clipboard on in front of her, moving her glasses further down her nose.
"Yes."
"To save your time and our own, you may start as soon as you feel ready. We have the songs you have requested so begin whenever."
She took a moment to go over the dance in her head and quietly cleared her voice before she did a small nod to the people. Getting in position, she heard the soft melody fill the once quiet room. And just like that all of her worries and nervousness disappeared.
Her body moved in sync to the rhythm, completely focused on her timing. She had never felt so free before as the stares from the judges didn't seem to bother her anymore.
Once the song had ended, the room once again fell silent, the sudden quietness making Haeun pick and scratch at her chipped painted nails.
"Wow I-" One of the older men trailed off, shaking his head in disbelief, he lowered his glasses and looked to Haeun once more. "That was incredible."
Them three words made every worry that began to build back up in Haeun's mind vanish within a second. Her body relaxed and she wore a smile of relief before bowing toward the three.
"Thank you." Her tone was high from excitement but still held professionalism.
The rest of the audition continued with her singing in which was cut short by one of the male judges."Your dancing was absolutely flawless, however, you do need to work on your vocals."
Disappointed, Haeun nodded understandingly, singing wasn't her best department in which she mentally kicked herself for not working harder on it.
"You may be dismissed, but stay close."
She thanked the judges and followed the lady who let her in after bowing. All she could do was hope and pray that she didn't screw up her performance.
