Disappointments

As you bike home you feel the cold air hit your lungs. This time it felt oddly unsettling like you were back the dream you had. You reach home and see Dustin with 3 other boys. Pulling up to the driveway you let out a small laugh "Hey... what's wrong?" you ask him. All the boys turn to look at you before Dustin spoke up "No one dresses up today." You tilt your head "what...?" one of the boys sighs "it's halloween and no one else dressed up." You let out a small laugh "come on it couldn't be that bad right?" They all give you a glare. "Sorry..." you quickly reply as you go to put your bike away. Coming back around the house Dustin yells out to you "y/n! what are you doing for halloween?" You sigh wanting to say you were going to the party but you think it's better you don't. "I'm not sure yet..." you reply seeing Dustin roll his eyes. You knew he wouldn't understand so you decide to go inside as the other boys begin to talk. "Y/n honey! I was just looking for you!" aunt Claudia says while walking into the kitchen. "Nancy called and she was wondering if you would like to hang out?" she sits down at the kitchen table looking you in the eye. "How did Nancy know I live here...?" you ask leaning your upper body on the counter putting your backpack down next to you. "She asked Mike to ask Dustin to get your number" she replies. "Ok... where does she live..?" you ask while walking around the counter to the kitchen table. "She lives with Mike I'll give you the address" she smiles getting up and going to the address book. "Let me put away my stuff" you tell aunt Claudia as you walk into your room grabbing the box now at the end of your bed. You sigh unpacking the rest of the clothes hanging them up. Shortly after cleaning up you walk out to the kitchen where aunt Claudia hands you a card with Nancy address on it. "2530 Maple Street, Hawkins, Indiana" it read as you put it in your back pocket you ask one last question "Is there any time i need to be home..?" aunt Claudia gives you a soft smile "Just be safe out there and don't be home to late!" you nod as you walk toward the front door. "Thanks, Mrs.Henderson." you shout out to her from the front door closing it. You go to the side of the house to fetch your bike. As you start to bike to Nancy's house you feel the chilly autumn air hit your face again. As your bike up the road you feel the the wind in your hair. You hear the sound of a roaring engine you squint and see a car in the distance "better move over..." you think to yourself. Just before you could make it to the left side of the road the car nearly runs you over.

As you swerve your bike to miss the car you hit a ditch. Falling off your bike onto the damp dead grass you look behind you to see the car racing off. "Of course it's him..." you mutter under your breath. You get up and brush yourself off getting back on your bike to Nancy's house. After 30 minutes of pure pedaling you reach Nancy's house. Out of breath you walk up the driveway and knock on the door. Mike opens the door "who are you?" he asks while Dustin and 2 other boys walk up behind him. "I'm... Dustin cousin..." you say hunched over hands on your knees. "I'm here to see Na-" you take a deep breath "Nancy" you look up to see no one in the doorway but Nancy on the stairwell. "Come on in!" she says cheerfully walking to another room. You follow her closing the door behind you. You knew you weren't that athletic but you didn't think a short bike ride would tire you out so much. "Do you think i have a glass of water please..?" you ask trying to take deep breaths. "Yea! What took you so long its a 15 minute bike ride from Dustin's house" she asks grabbing a glass from the cupboard. "I got lost" you let out a nervous laugh "and a car almost hit me" you say grabbing the glass of water from her hand and chugging it. "What color was the car...?" she ask pulling up a chair and sitting next to you. Finishing your water you speak "Well it was obviously... uhm... what was his name...?" you trail off. "Billy that's his name" you say wiping your mouth with your sleeve. "Billy..?" she says looking at you confused look "how did you know it was Billy...?" she asks you. "Well he was driving his blue camero and by the music i heard it just assumed" you say placing the cup down in the table. "Well it sure sounds like him..." she comments getting up and walking out of the kitchen. "Come on" she motions you to follow her "Where are we going..??" you ask. "My room i wanna talk to you about the party. "You think i'm going to be immature?" you are laughing while walking up the stairs. When you get to her room you sit on bed you take off your shoes off and placing them beside her bed. "So whats this about...?" you ask as Nancy shuts the door "Well... me and Steve are going to the party and we will probably be doing are own thing..." she says trailing off. "Ok...? thats fine i need to make some new friends anyways" you let out a nervous laugh. "Well that's a good plan i was also going to ask want us to drive you?" Nancy asks sitting next to you "Really...? that would be nice" Nancy sits next to you but before she could start speaking you hear a knock on her window.

Looking over you see Steve, Nancy rushes to the window and opens it. It now felt awkward.. Nancy, you, and Steve... "You're not supposed to be here!" Nancy hissed at Steve. "It's fine" he kisses her cheek and crawls through the window. You get up quickly as the two fall onto the bed together giggling. You make your way to the door as you go down the hall you hear Nancy giggling telling Steve to stop. You decide to go look for Dustin "Dustin?" you call out. "We're down in the basement!" he yells back. "Where is that?!" you look around "it's next to the stairs" he yells once again. Opening the door you walk down the stairs feeling the soft carpet on your feet. "Dustin..?" you turn around the corner and see Dustin and three other boys sitting around a table. "Who are the other two..?" you ask standing in-front of them. "This is Lucas, Mike, and Will" Dustin says. "Nice to meet you" you reach your hand out to shake theirs. "Nice to meet you y/n" Lucas says smiles and shakes your hand. "How did you know my name..?" you tilt your head and look at him confused. "Dustin told us all about you!" Will chimed in "you sound so cool!" Lucas adds on. "Well that means a lot, what are you guys playing?" you ask as you look at the table. "It's just a silly board game" Mike looks down fumbling with his fingers. "No no it looks fun!" you say putting your hands on your hips while smiling. "It's called D&D" Will exclaims "OH! Dungeons and Dragons?!" you say eagerly. "You know it?!" Will smiles his face lighting up with joy. "Yea i only kinda know how to play..." you say grabbing a chair over to the table and sitting down. "We're in the middle of a game but you can watch!" Mike explains "alrighty sounds fun!" you say as you get comfortable and watch the boys play.
