Some dark pasts must be relived for a better future.
The three doctors and one gangster sat around the dining table, the tension between them so thick it could be sliced with a knife. Taehyung had laid out everything, clearing the air, but even after hours of conversation, no one could come up with a concrete plan.
Finally, Jin clapped his hands to gather their attention. "The last choice I have..." He glanced between Sri and Taehyung before continuing, "Commissioner Jung Hoseok."
"What?!" the Kim couple exclaimed in unison. Taehyung's face darkened as he leaned forward. "How can we approach the police? They'll arrest her first! And losing someone as efficient as Sri is not an option right now."
"I'm not going anywhere until I know my daughter is safe," Sri said flatly, her voice cold and unwavering.
Jin rubbed his temples and sighed. "I know it's a terrible idea, but it's better than doing nothing! We can at least try!" He hesitated before adding, "Look, I might not like Sri, but I don't want her getting arrested after everything she's been through. She is the mother of my niece for gods sake! Hoseok is the only officer I trust to handle this."
Sri exhaled slowly, leaning back against the sofa, her fingers tapping restlessly against the armrest. "Alright," she muttered at last. "But we'll approach him my way."
Taehyung opened his mouth to object, but one look at Sri's determined gaze shut him down. He sighed, defeated. The three doctors exchanged glances and reluctantly nodded in agreement.
The next morning, Taehyung headed to the hospital, forcing himself to push aside his worries for Taesoo. There were responsibilities he couldn't avoid—checkups to complete, and a seminar he needed to deliver to a group of junior doctors. The assemblyman had postponed his surgery for two more weeks for political issues.
Still, his thoughts kept drifting back to Taesoo's face. He clenched his jaw through the lectures, fighting to hold his emotions in check. At one point, he had to pause mid-speech, swallowing the lump rising in his throat, but somehow, he made it through the day.
When the sun began to set, Taehyung finally stepped out of the hospital, exhausted and emotionally drained. As he approached the parking lot, his eyes landed on a familiar figure—a woman with blonde hair, a mask concealing most of her face, casually leaning against his car.
A smile ghosted across his lips. Sri.
"I need to take you somewhere," Sri said as soon as their eyes met. "Let me drive."
Without hesitation, Taehyung tossed her the car keys.
Once inside, Sri pulled off her disguise and tossed it aside before starting the engine. They drove in silence, the city lights fading behind them as they ventured onto the open road. The familiarity of the route stirred something deep within Taehyung—a bittersweet nostalgia wrapping around him like a warm, melancholic embrace.
