The person I'm trying to become is more important than the person I used to me.

"What would I have done without you, my dear?" Ivan stated, his appreciation evident as Sri walked over to him. The party continued in the background, seemingly unaffected by the ruthless murder of their comrade. The entire gang had witnessed worse. Kesien had tried to act smart and had paid the price. Sri hoped that this would have quashed any further plots from the other gangsters within Nôva.

"You've saved my gang yet again," he added with a grateful nod.

"I'm certain you could have handled this alone," Sri replied, raising an eyebrow. "What was your reason for notifying me about the sniper? You could have let me die, you know?"

"After you eliminated one of my biggest threats, keeping you safe is now my top priority," Ivan replied, his tone serious. "I want you to succeed in whatever game you've been playing for the past two years." He eyed Sri, who fell silent at his words before he continued. "Don't think I haven't noticed your sudden breakdowns during fights or your disappearances for days on end. I'm the boss—I should know how my people are doing. Besides, you are my favorite one," he added with a casual shrug.

"Of course, you do," she scoffed, sipping her wine. "But my game hasn't even begun. I'm still setting the stage."

"Let's just hope that doesn't mean putting Nôva on the blacklist," he laughed lightly.

"As I've said before, I have no interest in taking over or destroying your gang. So relax, boss," she assured him before walking over to the now-cleaned bar to retrieve a glass of wine.

Sri returned to her apartment and immediately kicked off her heels. Her gaze landed on a photo frame of Taehyung and Taesoo embracing each other, and her eyes began to sting. She knew it was that time of day when she missed her family the most. Leaving everyone behind had been tough, even for her. But she had to—she had to ensure no one could ever harm the people she loved. The plan she was crafting would guarantee victory, though it was a long process. For a brighter future, she'd had to cut people out of her life, leave her country, and, hardest of all, leave Taehyung.

"It won't be long... I'll make sure they pay for hurting you, Taesoo," she murmured, hovering over the sink as she splashed cold water onto her face to calm herself.

The next morning, Ivan stepped into his backyard and found his son, Arvin, speaking with Sri. He knew she held a deep affection for the boy, almost like a second mother. In her free time, she had even trained him in basic self-defense.

"Aunt S, I can't shoot my rabbit. I love him," Ivan heard his son say.

Sri's gaze softened as she knelt down to meet the child's eyes. "Choosing to hurt someone we love is the hardest decision of all. It's as if a part of you dies with them." Her voice grew quiet, lost in a lingering sadness. "But sometimes, life leaves us with no other choice. And when that moment comes, I want you to choose yourself."
