episode 2 (part 2): Trick Or Treat, Freak
June parked her car in front of Stacey's house and took one look at her red dress. She looked at the car mirror to check on her hair, sighed, and got out of her car. She examined everyone in the huge crowd and walked towards the front door."Billy, Billy, Billy!" Cheers were heard next to her as she stopped to look at the boy wearing an open leather jacket, revealing his bare chest. He seemed to be drinking some shots and then he, himself, cheered.
Walking into the house, the first thing she saw was Nancy dressed up as Lana from Risky Business. Next to her was Steve, he was dressed up as Joel Goodson. They were matching as the couple from the movie.
The blonde walked to Nancy and they greeted one another. When June looked at Steve, she decided to be genuinely nice and she gave him a smile, he of course smiled back.
Soon after, they were approached by no other than Billy Hargrove and Tommy.
"Looks like we got a new keg king, Harrington!" Tommy told Steve and leaned his arm on Billy's shoulder. Steve took his shades off and stared at Billy, both boys not saying anything.
Nancy walked away making June follow her. They walked to a counter with a bowl full of fizz.
"What's in this?" Nancy asked the boy nicely.
"Pure fuel. Pure fuel!" He yelled in excitement.
"Wanna try it?" Nancy whispered to June whilst she grabbed a cup for herself.
"Nah." June said and crossed her arms. She turned and saw Michelle right behind her. Michelle was wearing a black sparkly dress.
"Oh, hey! I didn't see you enter." June said in surprise.
"I just did actually." Michelle replied. "Also, it's so crowded here I can't breathe properly, couldn't they at least host the party at a bigger house?"
June laughed and noticed Steve walking next to them. He leaned his back on the counter. Nancy was already up for another drink.
"Slow down, Nance." Steve told Nancy."We're just being stupid teenagers for the night. Wasn't that the deal?" Nancy shrugged.
June looked away from them, spotting someone entering the house. It was Jonathan. She told Michelle to follow her and they both walked towards him.
"Jonathan!" June exclaimed and Jonathan smiled at her. "Nice costume." She said clearly sarcastic.
"Thanks, I'm going as a guy who doesn't like parties." He replied then looked at Michelle trying to recognize her. Michelle noticed and said, "I'm Michelle."
"Oh, sorry I just haven't seen you before."
"I'm a transfer. My dad wanted me to come to Hawkins so I can get closer to him." Jonathan made a long "oh" sound.
June told Michelle and Jonathan to follow her to dance. Jonathan didn't want to, but Michelle did and the girls danced for a bit.
A loud gasp was heard in the crowd and both girls turned to look. Steve spilled the cup of wine on Nancy's white shirt. Nancy mouthed, "What the hell?" Walking to the bathroom, followed by Steve. Everyone went back to what they were doing.
"Well, that's fun." Michelle said to June, she raised her eyebrows.
A moment after, Steve stormed out of the bathroom and stepped out of the house. June noticed and was wondering if she should go after him or stay where she was.
Michelle noticed and got annoyed at June's hesitation, "Go."
"But, we're not even close. I mean-we don't even talk."
"So what? Just go see what's wrong... For Nancy?" June huffed and rolled her eyes. "Fine, I'm going."
She walked out and found Steve in his car. She felt like punching a wall because part of her wanted to talk to him to see what's wrong and another part of her didn't. She sighed and walked to the driver's seat where he was sitting.
June signalled for him to roll down the window and he did. "Mind if I hop in?" Steve shook his head and she went in the passenger's seat.
It was silent for a moment and Steve was staring into the void. He was thinking about a lot of things. June noticed that. She thought something bad must have happened. For a moment she was thinking about how to break the silence, and she did.
"So, uh," She cleared her throat, Steve looked at her. "So like..." She was trying to find the right words. "What?" Steve asked in annoyance. June wrinkled her eyebrows, confused about why he's so annoyed, even at her. "Okay, okay. What happened in the bathroom?" She asked.
"Why do you care?" Steve shot her back with a question as well. Though, that wasn't the answer June was expecting. Sure, she thought he was a jerk, but apparently he's gotten 'nicer'-or so other people thought.
"I'm asking for Nancy." She tried to be patient, maybe she still didn't like him as a person.
"Why don't you ask her?" He was talking in a rude tone. Well, that question made her lose her temper.
"Would you just fix that attitude of yours for once?"
"All I'm saying is... Nancy's your friend, so go ask her not me." Steve turned his head towards his window and June sighed.
"Well, I don't know where she is, and clearly she said some harsh things since you're so upset right now."
"Okay."
After that, they broke into silence again. No one spoke. It was very quiet in the car.
"I'm just gonna go." June got out of the car not earning an answer from Steve. God, he was still a douchebag in her eyes. Will he ever change? She wondered. But she didn't know what was coming.
June got in her car and started driving home. So many thoughts at once. Wondering what happened between the two, thinking of what El was doing back at home, thinking if her dad ever went home.
Tired as she is from all the thinking, she turned on the radio. Maybe some music can cheer her up.
To her surprise, her new favorite song 'Uptown Girl' by Billy Joel was on. A few months ago, when she first heard the song, she became completely obsessed with it. Now June forgot about everything and started jamming to the magnificent peace of work.
