My eyes darted around the outside of the building, searching for a way to save myself

My eyes darted around the outside of the building, searching for a way to save myself. In a desperate move, I hooked my scythe on the nearest gargoyle and pulled myself up onto the landing, shaking off the fall before trying to figure out a way back up.

River came down in front of me, wings spread and I jumped out and grabbed his hand with my free one and he flew us both up to the large opening in the shattered glass.

"What are you going to do about that?" he asked shakily, clearly struggling with having a passenger.

"I'll have to make a special request to Lord Phantomhive and hope he can help," I sighed weakly.

With a final groan, River dropped me in through the window and landed beside me. I was just in time to catch Eddie, who was about to be sent flailing out the window. I hooked my death scythe around the chain that was attached to his and pulled him back in. I was suddenly in a familiar position.

I was held to the wall by my neck. All I could see was darkness and from that darkness, a hand holding my throat. I coughed and struggled in the iron grip. I heard a loud crash and looked in the direction of the sound where the smoke was clearing. The demon had broken down the wall (Y/N) was behind! I struggled more frantically, despite knowing I should stay calm and think of a way out of this. Relief washed over my body when I saw River's wingspan covering her. Blood dripped down his feathers but he gave me a kind smile though I knew he was in pain. I saw (Y/N) standing up with him as he ruffled his feathers and dumped the rubble off his bloody back.

She stared with wide-eyes and my first concern was that she could see the demon's true form. That could be eternally scarring to witness. But I realized her eyes were fixated on me. It was too late that I realized the demon's plan. I gritted my teeth to avoid letting out anything more than a hiss as his burning blade dug into my stomach. I blinked away the tears that wanted to form in my eyes hearing (Y/N)'s scream. I'd be fine. I knew that, but I knew she could never bring herself to see it that way.

I need to make sure she sees that I'm stronger than this, or she could have another attack. I planted both feet on the wall behind me and shot myself forward into the darkness, connecting with the demon's chest and forcing him back. I yanked the knife from my stomach and threw it into the darkness, swinging my scythe forward, where I had last felt him. I tried futilely to see through the black to no avail as I was kicked in the stomach and sent flying back into another wall, hearing the sound of glass as I hit the ground. I had landed near the window I had broken.

The black suddenly cleared again and I could see (Y/N) from where I was seated on the ground. I gave her a small smile, but my head was suddenly snapped to one side sharply and I felt blood trickling down my nose, right cheek, and over my left eye. My glasses were gone and I couldn't see. My chin was suddenly grabbed sharply and pulled upward, showing the scar on my neck clearly. I felt pressure on my stomach holding me down.
