I had woken up in a near empty, old room and remembered I had fallen asleep in Adrian's shop. Oh God, this is probably what will be his bed. I jumped up off the bed and hurried out of the room like I had committed a crime. I checked the front of the shop, but he wasn't there.
"Adrian?" I called as I made my way further down the hall. As I walked, I heard voices. Adrian's and someone else's. The door to the workroom was shut too.
"I'm working, darling!" he finally replied.
I know I had heard another voice. I peeked in slightly and saw a man laying on the table. Was he dead? His eyes were closed and his stomach was cut open, but that blood was bright red. It was fresh.
"I thought you were joking. You've started work so soon?"
"Yes. If you would please wait for me in the front," he said.
"Yes, of course." I closed the door and ran just a little ways away.
"You're lucky she is apparently not interested in seeing a corpse," Adrian said.
I could just barely make out that second male voice again. Was Adrian treating the wound of that man? That gash looked deep. What had happened? Was Adrian injured as well?
"Adrian?" I said, approaching the door again.
"Yes, (Y/N)?"
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine, my dear."
"Are you almost done?"
"Yes, just please do me a favor. I need a change of clothes."
"Oh. Well, the carriage to take me home should arrive soon. I'll have the driver accompany me to buy you new clothes. What happened?"
"Just a bit of blood is all."
Blood! Was it from that other man or was it his own?
"Can I come in?" I asked.
"I would rather you not."
"What measurements are you?" I hurried to the front to grab Adrian's notebook and managed to find an old pencil, then came back.
"Measure around your neck, chest, waist, the length of your arm, and around your upper arm and wrist," I heard that other male voice say as I approached the door.
"If you try to strangle me, I will kill you," Adrian said. Was the man in there dangerous? Had Adrian been fighting with him? Why did he bring him here?
"Sorry I left, Adrian. I was getting the notepad," I said.
"What are your measurements?" I repeated.
As Adrian told me his measurements, it did fluster me only slightly. Based on his measurements, he was quite slender, but still somewhat muscular. He would have to be if he carried that scythe around often. His scythe! If he had used it to fight, perhaps it would have some form of damage. I could try to find it. But later.
Just then, I heard a knock at the main door. I ran to open it and saw our family butler. Hiring him had been a favor from Lord Phantomhive to my father.
"It's time to come home, Miss (Y/N)," he said softly.
"Just a moment, Reiman," I said, running over near the door, "Adrian, I'm going now! I'll be back soon!"
"Be safe, dear."
"Dear?" Reiman asked, raising an eyebrow and grinning, "Quite a special friend then, isn't he." He hurried with me to the carriage as rain started to patter down overhead.
