AFTER HER SHIFT, Rose left the arcade hall, she only had a part time job here besides high, so she never had to work very long. Most of the time it was 2-3 hours, sometimes more, sometimes less. She had during her shift she had always glanced furtively at the redheaded girl who got out of Billy's car.
Max had spent the entire shift played on a slot machine and had not left the hall.

Rose went to her car, unlocked it and rummaged for the cigarettes. Then she slammed the car door, leaned against the Subaru and went to light them.
She sighed loudly. No lighter with it. But she was so forgetful and lost things all the time.

The arcade door opened again and Max came out. She ran towards the parking lot and stopped near Rose, who had just gotten into her car, looked around and scolded angrily.

"There you are once on time, this asshole is not there" she said half aloud to herself. Rose had sat down and wanted to start the engine, but decided to wait a moment to see what happened. She did not know why, because there was one thing she didn't want to do today: meet Billy again, not as long as she did not have her feelings under control.

This one should certainly pick up Max here, after he had also driven her here. But also further 5 minutes later the girl was still waiting.

Roselyn hesitated. Should she get out and keep Max company? Or even better: Should she just do the red-haired girl a favor and take her with her? She had heard of "asshole" she didn't seem to have much of a thing for Billy.

Hesitantly, Kate rolled down the window on the passenger side, leaning to the side to do so, and addressed the girl offhandedly.

"Hey, need a ride?"

Max startled slightly when she was addressed, looked toward the car, and her expression brightened a bit.

"You work at the arcade, don't you?" she asked straightforwardly. This fact seemed to be something good for her.

Rose nodded and added:

"Yep, I saw you get out of Billy's car. I thought maybe you'd rather get a ride somewhere else? You guys live almost next door."

"How do you know?" Max asked with interest and came closer to the car.

"I live with my family just two houses down the street. You've only moved here recently, I saw that." she explained with a smile. That seemed to
Max, because she opened the car door and got in. Rose nodded with satisfaction, started the car and drove off.

The girl did not seem to be very talkative. She always seemed a little annoyed. Since silence during the drive was just super unpleasant, Rose took the floor again and tried to start conversation.

"And Billy is your brother?" She remembered what Nancy had told her on the way to the party. "Well, hopefully Mike and his friends don't get in trouble. I know they think Hargrove's little sister is pretty cool."

"God, no!" Max blurted out immediately. "He's my half-brother, unfortunately. My mom and his dad moved to Hawkins together and I've had to live with that jerk ever since." She pronounced the word "moron particularly contemptuously.

Yep, she had been right, this girl was definitely anything but fond of her half-brother. But she understood it well, she felt the same way. Actually. When he kissed her and her emotional world was completely confused.

The two were now there and Kate's car stopped in front of Max's house. Parked in front of the house was the blue Camaro and none other than Billy himself was standing the hood open and an angry, almost aggressive an annoyed, almost aggressive "fuck" could be heard just as the two arrived. The
explained why he hadn't picked up his stepsister. He turned around when he heard noises and very briefly you could see a look of surprise when he saw who was standing in front of him, not longer than a millisecond. Then he
grin, wiped his oily hands clean on a cloth that was lying on the car, threw it carelessly on the ground and came towards Kate's car. The two girls were also still sitting in the Subaru, Max didn't seem particularly thrilled to have to pget out of the car when her stepbrother was standing right here.

Billy stopped in front of the car, leaned down to the window and supported his hands on the Car. Hesitantly, Kate rolled down the driver's side window
on the driver's side. His cheek was still slightly bluish.
"Couldn't wait to see me again?" he asked, continuing to grin confidently.
Max looked to Rose in confusion. "You know each other?" "Well, well..." Rose wanted to explain, but Billy interrupted her directly.

"That's none of your business." his grin disappeared, as he appraised Max with a stern look. "Go in the House, Susan's waiting." he added.

Max looked once more at Rose, sighed in annoyance, and got out of the car. She slammed the door angrily and trudged toward the house. The front door opened even before Max had arrived. A red-haired woman opened the door and immediately took Max in her arms. Behind the woman stood a very stern looking man. He did not look at Max, however, but stared at Billy and Rose.
He said nothing, but he did not look pleased at all. Billy seemed to have noticed he had looked at Max, and briefly brushed against the man's gaze for a moment. Rose noticed how his body literally tensed up for a moment. Then he stood up normally again tapped the roof of the car once with his hand,
turned and walked back to his Camaro, without saying another word. Irritated Rose looked after him. What was wrong with him? She had
expected at least one more lewd remark or something. But that he left without a word, that was surprising.

Once at his Camaro, he picked up the cloth the hood and followed Max into the house. The door of the house closed as Billy entered.

Rose looked thoughtfully at the door for a few more seconds door, then she drove her car two houses down the street and parked.
