TW: SMUT
THE RIDE BACK HOME was very unpleasant. She was really angry with Billy. So many thoughts were running through Rose's head. She really couldn't understand what had happened at all. It couldn't be possible that Billy Hargrove was jealous? Because she had been kissed? He must have seen it somewhere in the school hallway, she couldn't explain it any other way. This was going to be an awkward conversation.... Especially since Rose didn't even know where Billy was. She would first try directly at his home. Otherwise she could still look in the outdoor pool.
Arrived at home she parked cursorily. She seemed to be lucky, Billy's car was at least in front of the house. That he was without his beloved Camaro where on the road, she could not imagine. Quickly she walked over to the Hargrove house and hurriedly rang the doorbell.
It wasn't long before a man opened the door.
Rose froze. In her haste, she hadn't even thought about the fact that someone other than Billy could open the door. And then it was also this man, Billy's father. Her gaze turned icy as he looked at her blankly.
"Yes?" he asked harshly and curtly. Rose had to try really hard to be friendly now. When you just faced a person here who beat his own son, it was really a challenge.
"Good afternoon, I'm Roselyn Byrds, is Billy there?" she asked, as politely as she could, careful not to make her voice sound as cold as she felt at the moment. Suddenly the man twisted his face into a strangely crooked smile.
As if he was incapable of looking genuinely nice.
"Ah, the girl next door who almost drowned, right?" he inquired.
"That's right, your son saved me. You can be really proud of him" That had slipped out a little too provocatively for her. She hoped very much that he would not interpret her tone correctly.
But the man did not contort his face into a proud or happy expression, rather he looked at her almost perfidiously.
"Would be funny, too, if he couldn't swim. He grew up by the sea, after all."
Wow.
Rose couldn't believe it. How deprecatingly he spoke of his son's good deed. How there wasn't an ounce of pride or satisfaction in his gaze. Her anger at Billy evaporated and settled on this man. He did not give her time to think about it, but now held out his hand to her.
"Neil Hargrove my name, William's father" She looked at the hand for a moment. By no means did she want to accept it, but politeness demanded it.
So she reached for the hand and shook it, perhaps a tad too quickly. But she did not want to touch this man longer than necessary. His handshake was very firm and decisive and he almost squeezed her hand off before letting go.
Rose tried not to let on, but visibly tensed up all over her body.
The conversation with Billy in a moment would already be under no good star, so she couldn't use the contact beforehand with such a person as Neil even more.
"Is Billy available to talk now?" she asked therefore. Billy's father looked at her for a second, then nodded and pointed with his thumb over his right shoulder.
"He's in his room, just go in. Second Room from the left." With that he took a step backwards so Rose could enter. She tried to smile convulsively.
"Thank you" she pressed out, then she went into the house to the described room. She didn't turn around again, but clearly felt glances at her back. Just go in, he had said, he probably didn't think much of privacy either. Especially his teenage children should have their own space, especially in their retreat in the house.
