Chapter 43: Conversations

Y/N POV

We escaped the walkers in the cave we were confronted by James who tried to take AJ from us. I ended up killing James to protect my family and we also decided to have more trust in AJ.

We run out of the cave and enter the forest. The wind extinguishes the torch.

Y/N: Goddammit.

Clem giggles then I drop the torch and we continue to move.

Clem: Coast is clear. If the shore is that way, the school is probably that way.

Tenn: Aasim was the third.

Clem/Y/N/Carley: Huh?

Tenn: The day after AJ killed Marlon. You already know Violet and I voted for you to stay. Aasim was the third vote.

AJ: Wait, that means... Omar voted us out? And... Ruby?

Tenn: Uh, yeah.

AJ: Huh.

Scarlett: I liked Ruby.

Y/N: What made you think of that?

Tenn: Aasim said you guys knew how to survive. He could just tell the school would be safer with you there. I voted for you because I liked you, but his reason, it was better. I just... I just thought you should know. Aasim was right. We were safer. We were more scared than we let on, when you met us. You guys made that go away.

Y/N: That's really nice of you to say, Tenn. Thank you.

Tenn: That's okay. Now that we're out of danger and going back home, it just made me think of it.

AJ: I like Aasim.

Scarlett: Me too.

Tenn: If Marlon was still in charge, we'd be taken away to wherever. Or dead. Instead, we fought back. Because you showed us how. We weren't safe with Marlon. Even in his "safe zone" we were just... hiding.

We hear a noise, and Clem and Carley draw their knives and I stand in front of them and draw my 1911. Violet steps out from behind a tree.

AJ: Violet!

Ten, Scarlett and AJ hug Violet.

Violet: You made it. You're all alive.

Clem and Carley then hug her.

Violet: I couldn't believe you guys were really dead. I had to try and find you.

Clem: You really thought we'd die?

Violet: Maybe.

Carley: Don't worry Vi. We're okay.

Clem: Did everyone else escape?

Violet: Yeah, they're okay. They took the cart and headed back to the school. We're safe, Clem. All we gotta do now is find our way home.

Clem: Any idea which way that is?

Violet: I know an old bridge near here. If we cross it, we won't be too far from the school.

She then look at me and tears fill her eyes.

She runs towards me and dives into my chest.

I catch her and hold her close as I feel her trembling.

Violet: [crying] I thought I lost you.

Y/N: You didn't though honey. I'm right here.

Violet: [crying] I was so scared. I should've s-stayed with you then maybe...

I silence her by kissing her lips. She is a little surprised but eases into it and she sticks her tongue in my mouth. After we have a little tongue fight we pull away and I rest my hands on her hips.
