ben followed the twins as they called after luther who didn't once stop in his tracks.

"i just suddenly became very alive and you're already stressing me out!" matilda shouted, gaining the attention of a few passerbys.

"i'm just saying! get him drunk and you'll have your ben back - problem solved," klaus persuaded.

"yeah, you can get me drunk whenever you want," ben smugly spoke.

klaus laughed loudly as matilda visibly and audibly shuddered.

"do you want me to test your mortality?" she threatened her twin then turned to ben.

"i'm not going on a date with you."

"why not?"

"oh, we might lose luther by the time i'm done listing all the why's."

"luther, babe, where exactly are you going?" klaus decided to question.

"i'm going to the house. maybe sloane's there," luther answered.

"sure," klaus muttered under his breath before turning to their right.

"oh, hey, griddy's doughnuts is here again! why don't we rest there for a moment, eh?" he motioned towards the small donut shop while luther continued to walk.

"luther!" he whined and was ignored as he ran to catch up to the now not-giant giant.

"do you like donuts?" ben asked calmly, compared to how he first attempted to flirt with matilda.

she glared at him before looking back ahead, then turning back to him as she felt his eyes still on her.

she sighed and lifted her hand to begin counting out, "you're arrogant, bossy, a sourpuss, mean, grumpy, inconsiderate, selfish, pretty unreliable..."

on the other side of the state was evie.

she opened her eyes to find herself in a nostalgic setting, and everything sounded so quiet yet so loud at the same time. her hands flew up to her ears to adjust the devices on them, but there was nothing. just her ears, left all alone.

they finally looked around and recognized the colorfully floral wallpaper that covered the hallway. her face suddenly fell with familiarity as she looked at the four different doorways to go through.

"hello?" they poked their head through the first open doorway, then the next. "anyone home?"

"in the kitchen, honey!"

she froze in her tracks. from the room to her right was an archway that led to the kitchen. she didn't have to see it to remember.

she warily walked in to find her mother cleaning the island counter, their arrival catching her attention.

"well, this is a surprise." her mother had barely finished the sentence when evie threw their arms around her.

therese was her name. evie never forgot.

therese chuckled in a confused manner, asking when evie let go of the hug after a few beats had passed: "i thought you still had work for another twenty?"

"work?" evie echoed.

"why are you acting so surprised? you've been working at hargreeves's bank for two months now."
