He's gotten better over the years, that's for sure.
Now, I'm not saying that I expected no change in Overhaul's skill, but I didn't expect this much improvement. Whether I should've been awed or frustrated, I couldn't quite figure out at the time. Though, it has been five years.
The biggest change was how his quirk worked. So long as he was touching the material he was manipulating, it could bend and swerve like one of those inflatable people in front of car dealerships. The minute he let go, it stopped in its tracks as if by magic. I noticed, though, that he didn't try to bend the air. All we had to do was keep him off the ground.
The only problem was, Overhaul could also manipulate human flesh, much to my displeasure. I'm fine so long as I stay away - my quirk works long-distance - but Katsuki isn't. If he wants to do the most damage, he has to be touching, if not almost touching his target. If he even gets scraped, it's over for him. But I can't fight Overhaul alone - if I could, I would've sent Katsuki for some help. All we could
I wiped the blood from my lip and growled at my opponent. He laughed, clearly insane with bloodlust. "That all you've got? You haven't even scratched me yet! I thought you would've gotten better, but you're just as weak as you were back then."
At this point, Kacchan had stopped giving me confused looks - he knows I'll tell him later. Once we fold this guy's ass, that is.
And I had gotten stronger. I just needed time to show him what I could do.
I dodged another pillar he sent my way. It curved and hit me in my back, sending me rolling nearly off the roof of the building. I jumped up and my world spun. While I was trying to regain my composure, Kacchan fell on top of me. I was too dizzy to yell at him at the moment, so I shoved him off instead. He was bleeding from a wound on his temple, but otherwise he was fine.
Overhaul was laughing again. His laugh is so fucking annoying, it made me wanna rip his lungs out. "What would it be like to lose another person you love at my hand?"
Ok, by now he was just being obnoxious. Still, I couldn't stop the growing anger that was coming over me.
He sent a pillar my way. I sent a small shadow to crush it. It did just that, but the damn thing kept coming after me. Lights starting coming on in nearby houses. Someone was going to repot this. I can't get caught. Not now
"Dammit," I muttered under my breath. "How the hell are we gonna-"
Wait, what if... I glanced at Katsuki. Is he up for that, though? How much more can he take before his hands and arms get too injured? I didn't want to suggest this, but we're backed into a corner right now. Even if we could find another way, this is the only one I see working.
I reached a hand out to Katsuki. He rushed to my side, and I wrapped us in shadows. It isn't much, but it would be harder to see us. I quickly told my plan to him. "But can you handle it? You're arms-" "Don't worry about them," he interrupted me, pressing his finger to my lips. "I can handle a little more. Just try to be fast, ok." I nodded.
We broke from the cover of shadows. I giant rock was thrown at me. Why didn't Overhaul just use his quirk again? I smirked. Aww, is he getting tired? This could work after all.
Explosions made my ears ring, though Katsuki was on the other side of the roof. He shot into the air, and I followed. Once no light touched my skin, I wrapped my my shadows around my entire body. Overhaul nearly missed me as he charged through the dark sky after Katsuki. If he'd seen me, he would've just attacked.
Katsuki boosted himself all over the place, playing cat-can-mouse with Overhaul. I hated the fact that I had to wait some time. I would never admit it out loud, but I was worried about my little demon. He couldn't hold up for much longer.
After 3 minutes, I heard sirens in the distance, much to my relief. Never did I think that I would want the police to come after me. I have to be careful, though - even if nobody knows my face, it's still illegal to use your quirk without a permit or license, and even then you need rules.
I tried to catch up with the two, but they were way too fast. Katsuki was running out of steam, but Overhaul had a renewed power surge. He almost caught Katsuki many times already. My shadows were the only things that I could use.
The police finally arrived. Overhaul looked at them, surprised, Guess he couldn't hear the sirens in his fury. That split second of confusion was all I needed. My shadows got him, and I ripped his head off.
I landed in the alleyway where that girl was hiding without a second thought. She was in the same position I'd left her in. I tapped on her shoulder. She flinched and looked up. I saw tears in her eyes. "You're safe now," I assured her. "Let's get you to some good people for once."
I heard Katsuki thump to the ground behind me. I told Eri to sit tight and rushed to his side. Sweat poured down his face, blood down his arms. I gave him a hug without thinking. "Woah," he sputtered, "someone was worried about me, I presume?" "Shut up," I said, and kissed him. We turned to Eri. I reached my hand out to her, but she flinched back. What did that monster do to this sweet little girl?
I walked over. "I won't hurt you. No one is going to hurt you every again. I'll make sure of it. Come with me." I reached out again. This time she took my hand. Well, I guess my finger - she had small hands.
I told Katsuki to stay and walked out with the girl to the officer. The man and his partner pointed their guns to me. I gestured to the girl. "Take her, and don't let anything bad happen to her." She slowly walked to the men. The first man took her behind his back and turned to me.
Unfortunately, by the time he'd turned around, my love and I had already vanished into the night.
SOSOSOSOSOSO sorry for not finishing this chapter sooner. I had to think of a way to end this. Sorry if it was kinda anti-climatic. This had over 1100 words and my fingers hurt now.
