Eddie walked to the van with bags in the cart. He really felt out of place being here. He had every old lady watching him like a hawk. It made him uncomfortable. Eddie opened the van and slid the bags in, hoping they'd stay. He felt a tap on his shoulder and he turned to find Chrissy Cunningham smiling brightly at hi.
"Eddie!"
"Oh, uh, hi, Chrissy," he began. "Good to see you, but I gotta go. My girlfriend is waiting for me."
Her face turned into disappointment with a quick bye. Eddie shrugged his shoulders. Maybe it wasn't important. He got in his van and started driving off, blasting Dio.
Scarlet had just made some mop water and started mopping when she heard Eddie return. The door swung open and Eddie was stunned. She'd been cleaning this entire time.
"Sweetheart, did you clean the kitchen this entire time?"
"Yeah, I did because it needed to be done," she replied.
She straightened herself out as Eddie sat the bags on the counter. He went to his room and gave her cash and the change back. Scarlet was already going to work. She grabbed a knife and started peeling potatoes like she once saw her grandpa do. Eddie walked in on her and watched her for a while. He wanted to help, so he walked over and started peeling some too.
"Ed, what are you doing?"
"Helping," he smiled.
She laughed as she put him in charge of peeling the potatoes while she started marinating the chicken with ranch. Eddie watched her for a little bit. He was fascinated.
"Baby, when we get married," he began.
"When?"
"Okay, if we get married, I don't want you to think that you're supposed to be a house wife, okay? I want to take on some of the chores too."
Scarlet walked over and kissed his cheek. Smiling, she realized he misunderstood her.
"I didn't say when to correct you for if. I said when because I'm ready to spend my life with you if you are," she quietly told him.
Eddie smiled softly, now knowing that she really wants to be with him. She finished the chicken, pouring parmesan cheese before shoving it in the oven. Eddie was helping with the potatoes after they sat boiling for a while. Scarlet ordered for him to take them out for her so she could get started on homemade mashed potatoes.
"Wouldn't it be easier to grab the instant ones?"
"Yes, but they wouldn't be as good," she smiled.
Scarlet took over finishing dinner as Eddie watched. He was surprised as well she was cooking. Maybe he could ask her to teach him some things. He watched her cut some cherry tomatoes to put in a salad and was amazed at how fast and precise she was. She didn't cut herself. Fifteen minutes later, Scarlet put a plate before Eddie.
"Babe, this smells good!"
"Parmesan chicken never lets me down," she chuckled. "Taste test! Come on!"
Eddie laughed, cutting into the chicken for a bite. He shoved it in his mouth and tasted all of it. The chicken tasted incredible!! He threw his head back and groaned.
"Sweetheart, I absolutely love this!" he talked with his mouth full.
Scarlet chuckled, making Wayne a plate so he could eat later when he returned from work. She made her own plate and sat with Eddie who scarfed his plate in two minutes. She laughed as she barely started hers.
"Jesus, Eddie!"
"I'm a growing boy!"
"You just loved how good it tasted," Scarlet giggled.
"Very true, but I'm still growing," Eddie joked.

Scarlet was finishing the dishes when Eddie came over to help. He had to admit that when she was around, he wasn't being lazy in his room. She made him want to be a better man. Eddie looked over and watched her focus on scrubbing stuck on food.
"Damn thing," she groaned.
She pushed the dish under the soap water and dried her hands. Maybe soaking it for a while will do the trick. Eddie watched her walk away and tried to take a wack at the stuck on food. Scarlet turned around and saw that Eddie got rid of it easily.
"I'm putting you in charge of dishes," Scarlet alerted.
"Sounds good with me," he laughed.
He turned quickly and she tossed the apron at him. Scarlet hesitated to run for a second until he took it off his head and chased her. Squealing, she ran to his room. Eddie smiled as he chased her. Scarlet hid in his closet as Eddie smirked, staring at the closet. He never closed it. Eddie quickly opened it and found Scarlets legs. He reached in and grabbed her, tossing her carefully on his bed as he tickled her. Scarlet cackled, begging him to stop, but he kept going. Eddie then kissed her deeply and she was loving every moment of it. When they pulled away, Scarlet tangled her fingers in his curls.
"Eddie, you're always going to keep me safe?"
"My promise is still active since I made it," he softly smiled. "Jason won't ever touch you or come near you."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," he whispered.
He leaned down and kissed her quickly before he heard a knock on the door. Eddie went to answer the door while Scarlet went to the bathroom. Before she sat on the toilet, she heard an eerie familiar voice.
"Munson, where is she?" Jason asked sternly.
"None of your business," Eddie responded coldly. "What are you doing here, Carver?"
"Scarlet was meant to be mine. She deserves better than a freak like you!"
"I've been working for her to be mine since we were kids! How - how did you get my fucking address?!" Eddie furiously wondered.
"I know people, Munson. Where is she?"
"I'm not telling you fucking shit," Eddie furiously answered.
Glass shattered and Scarlet knew they were fighting. She hid in the shower behind the curtain, waiting. Eddie fell back as a ton of mugs fell on him. Jason stormed in and started wailing on him. Wayne pulled up after being let off early and saw Eddie getting punched on. He ran in and saw Jason, letting his anger out on his nephew.
"Hey! Who the hell are you?!"
Jason stopped and turned around. He hid his fear well. Eddie was laying back, unable to move and unable to feel a damn thing. His face was swollen and he couldn't handle this anymore.
"Get the hell out! Don't you ever come near this trailer again!" Wayne threatened.
Jason walked out without another word. Wayne helped Eddie up as Scarlet came out. She was clearly worried and ran to Eddie.
"Jesus Christ, Eddie," she whined.
"Scarlet," Wayne began. "Good to see you."
"Likewise, but I'm worried about Eddie," Scarlet expressed. "Baby, you alright?"
Eddie groaned and coughed up some blood. Wayne and Scarlet exchanged looks. Scarlet helped Eddie to the bathroom where she started helping him with his injuries. Eddie hated this for her and started crying.
"Ed, what's wrong?"
"I can't protect you," he whimpered. "I can't fucking protect myself from Jason, so how the hell can I with you?"
Eddie fell on her shoulder, sobbing into it. Seeing a man cry, let alone her own boyfriend, made her feel terrible. He had been strong for too long about this. Scarlet held Eddie close to her and let him cry it out. It was then that she felt rage about Jason.
"Baby, you can always protect me in your own way, okay? Don't ever doubt for a second that you can't," Scarlet whispered.
"I just got my ass handed to me!" Eddie yelled. "I can't keep you safe from that fucker and yet you love me for some fucking reason!"
"Eddie, what are you saying?"
Wayne came over and watched the two for a second.
"Eddie, you better get your head out of your ass," Wayne sternly told him. "If she isn't safe, then you do what you can to protect her. Scarlet is right. This fucking Jason idiot needs to be dealt with."
Scarlet was already tearing up and Eddie noticed. He felt terrible yelling at her. It wasn't her fault. Wayne walked away and Scarlet stepped back. Eddie reached for her, feeling terrible but she stepped back again.
"Princess, I'm sorry," Eddie began.
"No, why did you..? Jesus, Eddie!"
Scarlet began crying and walked into his room. Eddie followed and closed the door.
"Sweetheart, I didn't mean to take my anger out on you."
"Oh?! What did you mean to do?!" Scarlet fired. "Did you mean to tell me that you can't be with me because one dickhead is weirdly obsessed with me?!"
"No, baby, that's not what I meant."
Scarlet turned from him as he placed his hands on her waist. He held her close. Jason did this. He placed anger in Eddie and now his relationship was rocky because of him.
"I just don't know what you see in me. I can't protect you yet you choose me," Eddie softly explained. "I was angry at myself. I didn't mean to take it out on you. I'm sorry."
Scarlet didn't turn around. She faced away from Eddie still. Eddie wanted to be intimate with her but not while he was still in pain.
"Baby?" he mumbled.
"Eddie, I hate Jason so fucking bad," she sobbed. "He's ruining this and my fucking mental stability. The last thing I want to do is leave you over this."
Eddie wrapped his arms around her and held her closer. Scarlet buried her face in her hands and leaned back on him. He closed his eyes and just held her. This was a wedge being brought in by Jason. This was what he was doing to them both. Eddie turned her around and kissed her forehead.
"Stronger together, okay?"
She nodded, wrapping her arms around him. Scarlet wanted him to heal from his injuries first. They both did. Until then, they'd just cuddle in his bed until further notice.

The next few weeks were quiet and calm. Eddie borrowed Wayne's truck to take Scarlet to the library from work so Jason wouldn't find out she's at work. Scarlet was in the back, working on the old literature that no one was able to check out. They were too old to be held and she was working on them. Eddie watched her from outside of the containment box the works were in. He watched her carefully handle the works.
"Babe, you don't have to be here," she told him.
"I just - want to make sure you're safe. That's all."
She rolled her eyes and stepped out, locking the door behind her. Eddie stood to his feet and walked over to her.
"Sweetheart, I do get worried that he'll come out of no where," Eddie confronted.
"And when he does, what then?"
"Keep you safe. That's it. No matter what I have to do, I have to keep you safe."
Eddie took Scarlets face in his hands. Forcing her to look at him, Eddie smiled. It made her laugh a little until Dolores called for her. Scarlet cursed and rushed up the stairs with Eddie following right behind her.
"Jason Carver needs to speak with you."
"Absolutely not! He can fuck right off!! He's the one following me and harassing me! I even feel he may end up taking me for himself without my permission," Scarlet expressed. "Dolores, he can't know I'm here. At least tell him, I'm stuck in the return room."
Dolores sighed and went to the front as she hid from the front lobby. Scarlet heard Jason ask twenty questions but each time, they were shot down.
"She has to be here and she has to see me!"
"If she wanted to see you, she would have been out already. Leave, Mister Carver."
Jason scoffed and stormed out quickly. Scarlet ran out and hugged her boss' neck. She didn't know how to thank her, but it was obvious that she would have to quite for now. She couldn't risk being seen by Jason.
