Eddie returned with a working walkie, and Scarlet didn't ask questions about how he got it. He called in for Dustin to see if he was listening. After he responded to Eddie, Scarlet leaned her head back against the rock and sighed deeply.
"Okay, good news! They're in their way," Eddie smiled.
"Bad news is, don't know when they're going to get here," Scarlet finished. "Eddie, what the hell is going on?"
"What do you mean?"
Scarlet slightly turned her head and eyed Eddie. She looked confused, upset, overwhelmed even. Scarlet just seemed like she was holding it together, but Eddie knew her better than that. She was hanging on by a thread. The seams were slowly ripping, but now, they were pulling faster than he expected them to, thanks to her experience with Vecna.
A tear trickled down Scarlet's cheek, and it broke Eddie. This was his problem, his issue to deal with, but she carried all the weight. Scarlet was in this with Eddie til the end. She was the true definition of ride or die, regardless what they faced together.
"Princess," he whispered, rushing to her.
"Eddie, how much longer do we have to deal with this?" she whispered.
"Not much longer, I hope," he replied truthfully. "But hey, don't cry on me, okay? I know it's hard, but if I see you crying, I will start crying. Scar, no one else would've wanted to face this with me, being trapped with me while I'm being hunted down by the police and shallow-minded mothers."
"Thanks, Robin," Scarlet quietly chuckled.
"The thing is, sweetheart, you've been by my side since the beginning. You're willing to face whatever challenges and obstacles I face because, well, we've said together until the end, right? You're the only person I choose to be with. You want me to move on and find someone new? Hell no," Eddie chuckles. "I'll figure out how to clone you instead. If I can't, I'll die alone. I'll adopt a little kid or something to keep the Munson name going, I guess, but as for girlfriends or wives? No, baby, that's your title. No one will ever demote you on that because it's always been you.
"Yeah, I've crushed on Chrissy and some other woman, but - it all made sense when you came back. When you chose to tackle my ass, I was thinking, why the fuck this random bitch was doing this to me? Until I realized it was you. The red hair threw me off, but I knew it was you. My soul recognized you, baby. My soul recognized its home - and it's with you.
"Scarlet Rose Williams, I adore you. I love you with every fiber of my being. I'd do anything to protect you, keep you safe, and to keep you happy. I'll do anything to see that beautiful smile again. If it means we need to sneak away for a minute, I will do it. If it means we need to move to another state and change our names, I'd be more than happy. I don't care what fate laid out for us. My future is with you and baby, I'll choose you all over again if I have to."
Scarlet started crying even more. It wasn't because of the bullshit they had to go through but how sincere and authentic his words were. They were filled with honesty and love. Scarlet smiled a little and pulled Eddie close to her, kissing him hard. They made out for a bit until they heard twigs snap and leaves rustling. Eddie and Scarlet ran behind a rock and waited until they both heard Steve and Dustin. They heard Steve call Dustin a butthead, and that's when Eddie climbed on the rock.
"I concur! You, Dustin Henderson, are a total butthead."
Eddie jumped down, Scarlet walked out, leaning against the rock as Dustin hugged Eddie. As they sat around and talked, Scarlet took notice of Dustin walking around with his compass.
"Hey, Dustin. You okay?" she whispered.
"Shh!!" he demanded.
Scarlet threw her hands in the air as Eddie asked if Dustin was cursed. It was when he finally realized what was going on with his compass. He talked about how a magnetic pull was changing the course of the compass, and the last time they witnessed this was with a gate to the upside down.
"Gate?! Oh hell no," Scarlet admitted. "Yeah, uh, I'm good. Thanks anyways."
"Princess," Eddie scolded.
"Just saying!" she replied.
They needed to test out the theory, and Scarlet eyed Eddie, who eyed her. He knew what she was thinking. There was no way in hell she was going. She couldn't swim at all. When the boat was tipped over with Patrick, Eddie had to grab her. She held onto his shoulders, and if she were told to go, she'd have to do it again. Dustin put the focus on Eddie once again.
"What say you, Eddie the banished?"
"I say you're asking me to follow you into Mordor, which, if I'm totally straight with you, I think it's a bad idea. But the shire? The shire is burning," Eddie spoke. "So Mordor it is."
Eddie stood up to leave, but Steve was confused. Scarlet laughed as Eddie came back to get his things he left.
"What's Mordor?"
"It's a city in the lord of the rings," Scarlet answered. "You'd have to read it to understand why Eddie said what he did."
"I think I'm good, thanks," Steve openly said.
They followed Dustin the entire way, and Eddie was right behind him. Scarlet tried to keep up but was with Nancy and Robin.
"How did you and Eddie meet, if you don't mind me asking?" Robin wondered.
"We were best friends when we were kids. I tolerated him and his shenanigans, and he with me. One day, he just asked if we were best friends, and I shrugged my shoulders and asked him if he wanted me to be. Ever since we were best friends, but then I moved to Nevada when we were like twelve, and I hadn't seen him since," Scarlet explained. "Nancy here would help me keep up to date with everyone with pictures and letters. When I saw a photo of Eddie and how he looked, I swear my soul was weeping for him. I didn't go on anymore dates or got into any more relationships because it didn't matter how attractive he was. It was like my soul recognized him.
"When I got back from Nevada, I straight up tackled him. I knew he didn't recognize me at first, but - I have to admit that in his arms, I knew I was home."
"So, typical soulmate story?" Robin wondered.
"Yeah," Scarlet smiled to herself. "Typical soulmate story."
Eddie glanced back at Scarlet, flashing a soft smile. He was making sure she was okay - and she was. Waving, Scarlet smiled back at her soulmate. Eddie turned around and focused on Dustin. Steve began to ask how Eddie truly felt about Scarlet.
"Is it because she's hot or...?"
"No, it's not just that," Eddie laughed. "She's home. Simple."
