Thursday after school..

"Oi!" Red hears a shout from behind her as she discretely crosses the street in front of her school. She looks over her shoulder to find Nick staring back at her with an unsure look painted across his face before he crosses the street, following after her to the pavement.

Red stares at him eye to eye as she leans against the wall, waiting for a word.

"Was that thing Mrs. Lane read yours?" Nick asks as he exhales a sharp breath. Red simply nods.

"It was good.." Nick hesitatingly replies, nodding his head in awkwardness before Red is taking her deck out and slipping a cigarette between her lips, "Is that all?" She raises an eyebrow as she lights her cigarette.

He stares before gulping. "If this is your idea of small talk, Nick.. get a grip." Red rolls her eyes, attaching the fag to her lips before turning her back to him.

"Red-" He manages to spit out abruptly making Red stop in her tracks. A short silence overcomes the pair till Nick decides to continue, "I'm sorry alright? What I said was cruel and just generally rude, it was a step too far.." He stops, gulping again as he feels his throat tighten.

Red doesn't respond, her eyes fixated forwards. "I was worried and confused.. I just feel like you keep a lot from me.." He hesitantly adds, staring at the back of her, waiting for a reaction or even a breath.

"I'm sorry." She huffs in a low tone, looking over her shoulder at him before turning back and continuing to walk away. Nick doesn't say anything, he simply just accepts that this is how it's gonna be for now, that at this moment in time, he and Red should stay away for a bit. He smiles to himself as he's relieved of having talked to her.

Friday night, Layla's house..

Layla is sitting in front of her large light-up vanity mirror attempting to do up her makeup as Red is sitting on the edge of her bed right behind her, scrolling through her phone.

Layla keeps finding herself staring at Red for a while before ripping her glued eyes away from the curly head. She does it once more before Red lifts her head up and sighs in exhaustion, Layla trying to play it off by looking busy.

"What's that sigh about? You don't sound too happy." Layla chuckles as she questions the Red who is staring at her intently through the mirror. "Just bored is all." Red replies in a dull tone, holding a stare before, "Layla, why do you wear makeup?" Red curiously asks Layla.

Layla looks at Red through the mirror as she grabs her concealer before swiping it under her eyes in a quick motion, covering the once purple eye bags to a soft white. "To feel good." Layla honestly replies, looking away and back to the makeup rather than Red's dark stare.

"So, what you're saying is that you don't feel good without it?" Red figures, her eyebrows knitting together as she readjusts herself, spreading her legs as she leans forwards, still holding a curious stare.

Layla crosses her legs under the vanity table as she processes the question before shamefully and slowly shaking her head in response as she brings the damp beauty blender to her face.

"Why not?" Red is quick to question as she twists the black ring on her middle finger. "You." Layla jokes to break the ice as she is occupied with blending her makeup.

"Oh shut the fuck up, like you give a flying fuck about what I used to say." Red attacks as she readjusts herself to sit crossed-legged on the edge of the bed.

"Take a joke, Red." Layla chuckles at Red's immediate defense, wondering to herself how they went from beating each other blue to being sat in her bedroom talking about makeup.
