Finally, some quiet... Kirumi's trial had just ended, which was enough to make anybody cry. Except Kokichi, of course, since he was still here making light jokes again. It was infuriating how he could just get over stuff like that so quickly and easily, without even batting an eye. But when someone insults him, he bursts into his crocodile tears - being the Ultimate Empath, you were always trying to comfort him, and called an idiot for believing his tears were real. But you never thought they were real, you just wanted them to stop.

"Nishishi~ Well *that* was an interesting trial! Certainly not boring~"

Here he was again, his usual cheerful self; you couldn't understand how he could be happy at a time like this, but as the trials went on, you'd all grown used to it. It was as if he lacked any sense of mortality or empathy for the people who died, and surely didn't even deserve it. Kokichi had his hands behind his back and started walking away from you all, probably off to do something suspicious.

Eventually, without exchanging many words, you all split off one by one in the building - there weren't many of you left. You went into the dining hall, as you wanted to be alone; Kirumi was a good person, and knowing she died like that was just killing you. As you sat down though, the sound of footsteps approached your table - you glanced up, only to see a mess of white, black and purple looking back at you.

"For gods sake, Ouma, what're you doing here?"

At first he looked a little offended at your short tone, but that passed as soon as he sat down: what was his game?

"Well~ I wanted to see how you were doing, (Y/N)-Chan ! I know you were close with Kirumi, and I wanted to check on you! Is that so hard to believe~?"

Yes. Yes it was hard to believe. Sure, he wasn't the worst person in the world, but he never showed any remorse or sympathy for anyone or anything, so for him to care was out of the question for you.

"Heeyy, don't ignore me, (Y/N)-Chan! I'm just trying to be nice!" He started crying again: those same crocodile tears that he used on a daily basis, the ones that somehow still got to you. Often you could distinguish between the real and fake ones, but Kokichi was definitely an enigma - it caused real problems with your own empathy. So even though you knew those tears weren't real, you still reached over to hold his hands on the table. Of course, that's when those tears cleared up entirely...

"Awh, so you do care! I knew that you'd fall for those same tears again~~"

You hadn't 'fallen for' his tears, but you held your tongue, in fear of having him cry again. Nothing Kokichi ever did was truly genuine, unless it was something really bad that concerned him. It was upsetting to know the reason he acted like that, being such a twat to everyone else 24/7, was because people treated him as if he were the villain, worse than the mastermind.

"Hey, you two! You're going to need to go back to your rooms."

"Shuichi? What's going on?"

"Nothing, but we all want to keep it that way, so I suggested we stay locked in our rooms during the night. Do not open the door to anyone. It's not a great alternative, but it'll have to do until we come up with a solution."

Begrudgingly, Kokichi got up from his seat and crossed back to his dorm and you followed suit. Once you got in, all you could think about was Kokichi, still trying to wrap your head around him: it was an impossible task, but a good way to pass the time. You slipped on a pajama set, and slunk into bed, before taking the time to do some writing. Well, you tried to. Despite being the Ultimate Lyricist, you hadn't taken much time in practicing that craft, or writing songs at all. So, as soon as your pen hit the paper, you couldn't think of anything - your mind was drawing a blank.
