"I'm soooo happy by you made amends with the alcoholic of Pelican Town." Nixie rolled her eyes once I told her of the previous events. I felt my face bubble a red color."You're just jealous. Ever since Sebastian has been hanging out with Abigail more, you've been pissy." I retorted. Nixie flashed me an angry glance as she finished placing the last fence post in.
She leaned against the pole and glared at me. "Shane is more pathetic than the garbage laying on our lawn." She hissed. I snapped at her.
"He has done nothing to you!"
"Oh yeah? Well go see him right now and you'll see. He's probably doing some pathetic drinking right now."
"Shane is struggling with depression and-"
"Okay, Bambi. Excuse all of his bad actions." Nixie said. I wanted to say something else but just threw my gloves on the ground and stomped inside to change into clean jeans and a shirt. Nixie had an alcoholic brother that terrorized her family for awhile so while I understood her hatred towards drunks, I hated how she treated someone she had barely interacted with. As I exited the door and about to leave the farm, I tripped on a stone. Mumbling, I made a mental note of that and to get rid of it soon.
I walked the long way to see Shane because on a Saturday morning, everyone was out and I still liked chatting. Sure enough I bumped into Harvey right away who gave me a shy grin.
"Hey, Harv!" I waved.
"Good morning, Bambi. How is the farm?"
Harvey was a shy man but handsome and had a cute smile. "Awesome. You look well." I flirted. Harvey rubbed his hand together nervously with a chuckle and I noticed his ears turning red.
"Ah- er... thank you. I hope Nixie and you aren't overworking yourselves." He put his hands behind his back in a gentleman like way. I returned his smile with a giggle.
"Oh you're so kind looking after us." I continued, "we're making sure to take plenty of breaks. I'll be sure to stop by if I have to."
Harvey nodded, the red never leaving his cheeks as he said, "that's good to hear. I'm glad at least you're taking your health seriously... unlike some people." He seemed to murmur that last part to mostly himself.
"Oh?"
"I'll see you around, Bambi, my lunch break is over. It was good chatting with you." Harvey said.
"It was a pleasure." I winked, causing his cheeks to heat up even more and him walk away while rubbing nervously at his neck.
I always got a kick out of flirting with guys who flustered easily even with the simplest of actions. I saw Emily walking on her way to her house from Pierre's and I fell in line with her, waving.
"Hiya, Bambi! How're you?" She asked happily. We passed the saloon.
"I'm great, just on my way to see Shane." I said.
Emily glanced at me sideways but then stared ahead of us, "you guys seem like close friends."
I thought about it. "I don't know about 'close'."
"Well whatever it is, I'm glad Shane has someone to talk to. We would talk once in a blue moon but he likes to be alone... that is until you showed up."
I gave her a confused look.
"He talked about you a little bit and how he 'didn't mind your company' which is Shane code for he likes talking to you." Emily added with a giggle. My face felt hot and my heart did that weird flop.
