Tommy sighed, letting his head fall onto the counter in front of him. Ranboo had the day off and Niki was busy in the backroom, which meant it was just Tommy in the front, manning the customers. Which wouldn’t be a problem, except for the fact that it had been a really slow day.

Groaning, Tommy adjusted himself so his head was pillowed on his forearms, turned so that he could see the TV screen. The station was playing a story about a bank robbery from the other night, talking about the new vigilante that had taken care of the situation before the cops had arrived.

“Not much is known about this vigilante,” the newscaster was saying, looking mildly bored as he spoke. “But we do know that they are here to help.”

Tommy smiled to himself, giving the TV screen a thumbs up. “Damn right he is.”

“A fan of vigilantes I take it?”

Tommy yelped, jumping to his feet and whirling towards the register, feeling an embarrassed blush spreading as he caught sight of the person on the other side of the counter. The man had shoulder length blond hair that was pulled back into a loose ponytail, his eyes crinkled with smile lines and his eyes a kind blue. He was dressed in a green sweater and carried himself like a hero. Tommy would know, he had to do a whole ass training course on how to stand like that.

“Um, sorry, what can I get for you today?” Tommy asked hurriedly, moving to position himself in front of the register, giving the man an apologetic smile.

The man smiled reassuringly back. “A black coffee and a green tea please.”

Tommy frowned, putting in the order. “What is it with people and black coffee?” He muttered under his breath, causing the man to laugh.

“The black coffee is actually for my son, I don’t understand his deal with it either. Apparently you make it really well though, since he’s in here all the time.”

Tommy blinked, pausing on his way to grab a cup for the order. He turned back to the man, looking him over slowly, trying to see any resemblance. There literally was none, but what were the odds?

“I didn’t think Wilbur would have such a short dad,” Tommy muttered, frowning as the man laughed again. That wasn’t supposed to be funny, it was supposed to be provoking. Why was this guy so nice?

“Wilbur’s actually adopted, so he sadly doesn’t get my shortness,” the man said, chuckling at his own joke. Truthfully, the guy was probably the same height as Tommy, but that didn’t have to stop Tommy from being an asshole.

Tommy just nodded, turning to pour the coffee into the cup he had grabbed. “A shame really, he needs to be humbled.”

The man chuckled again, his eyes sparkling with amusement as Tommy handed him the coffee, getting started on the tea. “Believe me, if I could humble that little shit, I would.”

Tommy snorted, snapping a lid onto the tea and handing it across as well. The man handed Tommy his credit card, which Tommy passed quickly through the scanner.

“I’m Phil, by the way,” the man said after a moment, smiling as Tommy handed his credit card back. Tommy blinked, surprised.

“I’m Tommy. Why…”

Phil smiled knowingly, holding up the coffee in his hands. “Why isn’t Wilbur here today?”

When Tommy nodded, Phil sighed, his smile being replaced with a much more tired looking expression. “He’s been really busy with his work lately, and I figured this was the least I could do to help out. It’s not like I’m stopping a bank robbery or anything, but I think I can manage to grab my kid coffee every once in a while.”

Tommy nodded, considering that as Phil left, waving goodbye before the door swung shut behind him. Tommy knew he had had parents, he had to have. Because everyone had parents, that was just how it worked. It was just that Tommy couldn’t remember them. His whole life was Dream and Sapnap and George and everyone at the Tower.

He didn’t need parents anyways. Tommy was a big man, the biggest in fact!

But still, the idea seemed nice.

Phil hummed, setting Wilbur’s coffee down next to where the man was sitting at his desk, bent over his laptop and rubbing sleep out of his eyes. Phil looked him over, frowning.

“You should really take a break, mate,” he said slowly, giving Wilbur a worried look. Wilbur just waved him off, grabbing his coffee and taking a long sip before returning to his laptop.

“Can’t, gotta finish this research before our next big mission. Or do you want to go into it blind?”

Phil sighed, knowing he couldn’t argue with his son. Besides, he had some of his own work to get done today. Moving out of Wilbur’s office, Phil made his way down the hall, glancing briefly at the photos that hung on the walls as he made his way to his own office. Catching sight of one of the older family portraits, Phil smiled to himself, taking a moment to look at the woman in the picture. Kristin had always looked rather angelic, though Phil was probably biased.

He missed her. God, he missed her all the time.

Moving past the portrait, Phil let out a sigh, pushing open the door of his own office and walking quickly inside. Sitting down at his desk, he turned on his computer, moving to the only open tab. A file loaded onto the screen, big letters filling the first page.

PROJECT: OLYMPIA

Phil frowned, scrolling through the file. He didn’t remember opening this. Scanning his desk, a small notepad caught his eye, the familiar cursive scrawl of Techno filling the first page. Phil picked up the pad, scanning the words with a frown.

Had to go out for a bit, got some work to do. Found this yesterday, thought it might intrigue you. A new case, maybe.

Phil hummed, setting the notepad down and turning back to the file on his computer. He scanned it quickly, his frown only deepening as he took it in. Words and phrases jumped out at him, swimming around in his head.

Lethe

Subject Daedelus has proved to be quite skilled with his powers, as well as his other abilities. Subject Lethe is less inclined to use his gifts around others.

Subject [REDACTED] is improving exponentially, getting a strong grasp on all of his abilities. We are planning on moving forwards with him as our first test.

Phil pulled up another tab on his computer, typing out notes as quickly as he could. Names, dates, any information that seemed relevant. He still couldn’t quite seem to piece it together, though. There wasn’t enough information here.

But Phil already knew he was going to see this case through till the end.

He downloaded the original file, running a hand over his face with a sigh. Project: Olympia, huh? This was going to be an interesting mystery.
