Everything was white. Just like it always had been. And just like it always would.

That wasn’t right.

It hadn’t always been like this. Had it? He couldn’t remember now.

Red… red feathers?

Right! Sometimes there was red! When Dream let him let out his wings, he got to see red! Icarus had decided that red must be the nicest color in the whole world. Of course, the only other colors he knew were white and… green.

Icarus had never liked green.

“Icarus, are you ready for today’s training?”

Oh! That was a voice Icarus recognized! Dream was here early today. Or maybe he was on time, Icarus couldn’t actually remember what time it was. Or what day it was.

Was he still 5?

No, he was 6 now, Dream had told him so. And then Dream had locked him in his room without dinner when Icarus had asked if he could visit the others for his birthday.

Had that really happened? Icarus wasn’t sure anymore.

No no, it had. He remembered because Lethe had been sad the next day when Icarus trained with him again.

“I wish we had known it was your birthday, we would’ve gotten you a gift!”

That was a thing that people did for birthdays, wasn’t it? Giving gifts?

Tommy.

…

Tommy, you need to snap out of it.

Come on, Toms.

Everything was white. Just like it had always been. And just like it always would be.

“Schlatt,” Wilbur all but spat at the man now standing in front of him, glaring daggers into the other man’s face.

“Wilbur,” Schlatt responded, his smile never faltering as he turned away, making his way towards one of the walls of the room. Sliding his hand along the white stone, Schlatt paused, pressing in on one spot. There was a soft click, then a drawer was sliding open, revealing an assortment of medical devices and other cruel looking tools. Wilbur felt bile rise in his throat, but he choked it down, watching as Schlatt carefully chose a lone, thin knife from the drawer.
