Everything about Tommy’s day thus far had been perfectly and completely normal. Which meant something was definitely about to go wrong.

It started with Techno coming back into the cafe. This on its own wasn’t strange, because he had become a bit of a regular over the last week. He and Tommy would bicker a bit, Techno would give Ranboo a small smile, and then he would leave, three black coffees balanced carefully in his hands.

Techno hummed as he looked over the menu in front of him, acting like he didn’t get the exact same thing every single time he came in. Tommy drummed his fingers on the counter, glaring at the pink haired man as he continued to stare at the menu in his hand.

“Why are you taking so long?” Tommy groaned, dropping his head onto the counter and slamming his fist halfheartedly next to it. Techno only smiled, his eyes not even leaving the menu in front of him.

“I can’t see very well, let a man read in peace.”

“You literally have your glasses on!”

Ranboo swerved quickly around Tommy, setting down three black coffees down in front of Techno, who smiled warmly up at him.

“Thank you, Ranboo.”

Ranboo just sighed, rolling his eyes with a grin. “Whatever man, just stop freaking Tommy out before he decides to blow something up.”

“I’m not freaking-”

The sound of the TV in the corner cut him off and Tommy turned, glaring at Tubbo. The small boy was standing in front of the TV, remote in hand, staring intently at the screen. Tommy slid his gaze away from his friend to try to see whatever Tubbo found so interesting.

Tommy’s heart dropped. Distantly, he heard the sound of Techno dropping one of the coffees, but it sounded like it was coming from a long way away. There on the TV screen, throwing curses even as he was being hauled away by heroes, was Siren.

“BREAKING NEWS: THE INFAMOUS SUPERVILLAIN SIREN HAS BEEN APPREHENDED THIS AFTERNOON AFTER A LARGE-SCALE FIGHT WITH THE TOP HEROES DREAM AND 404. DREAM WAS ASKED FOR A STATEMENT ON THIS ARREST.”

The screen cut to a video of Dream, his mask firmly in place and his hero suit nearly impeccable. Tommy saw, with a small bit of pride, that there was a long cut down the side of Dream’s neck. Wilbur must have gotten at least one hit in.

“I’m not going to lie and say that Siren wasn’t a hard enemy,” Dream’s voice was saying, the sound filling the silent cafe, “he definitely gave us a run for our money. But justice will always prevail, and today we have made a great step forward for the safety of our city.”

The TV broadcast cut back to a reporter on the scene, but Tommy was already turning away from the screen, scrambling for his backpack and pulling his suit out of it. He saw Ranboo out of the corner of his eye, his horns and tail now on full display as he pulled on his mask and goggles. Techno had unfrozen and was moving too, setting down the forgotten coffees and tapping something on his wrist. His clothes seemed to shift, changing until they had become the recognizable colors and textures of his villain suit. Tubbo adjusted the gas mask on his face, his eyes sparking with a dangerous yellow glow.

All four of them paused as Niki came barreling out from the backroom, her phone pressed to her ear and her mask already covering her face.

“We don’t have time for that,” she was saying, voice strained as she pulled her long gloves on over her arms. “We need to get him out of there before they manage to get him to the tower.”

Tommy thought he heard the sound of Puffy’s voice on the other side of the line, sounding low and urgent. Niki said a quick goodbye before hanging up, sliding the phone into a hidden pocket on her suit. She glanced around at the assembled people, her eyes wide. Tommy saw the way her hands shook almost unnoticeably as she nodded, pointing to Techno.

“Blade, get Zephyrus. If you can get in contact with Kronos and Jester, tell them what’s happening and where we’re headed. Knowing them, they won’t have seen the news yet. Theseus, stay with Ender and Wasp. Don’t engage with the heroes.”

The last comment was directed right at Tommy, Niki’s voice hard as steel as she spoke. Tommy just nodded, though he knew he couldn’t promise something like that.

“I’m going to meet up with Odyesseus and try to figure out what to do about this. Do not engage with anyone until we have a plan.”

With that Niki turned, running out of the cafe and disappearing down the street. Techno nodded at the three vigilantes before following, heading in the opposite direction. Ranboo stepped forward, holding out his hands to Tubbo and Tommy, who took them quickly. Without a word, they were gone, disappearing in a swirl of purple.

This wasn’t going to end well at all.

……………………………………….

They materialized on top of a building next to the Tower. Tommy hurried to the edge, peering carefully over so that he wouldn’t be able to be seen from below. He felt Tubbo and Ranboo on either side of him, watching along with him as the heroes came into view.

They must have knocked Siren out, because the villain was limp between the two heroes carrying him, Dream bringing up the rear of the group as they walked. Tommy knew he was grinning under his mask, and it made his blood boil.

Right before he stepped through the doors of the tower, Dream paused, turning and looking up in the exact direction of where Tommy was crouched. Tommy watched, frozen, as Dream raised a hand, giving him a mock salute before turning and walking inside.

“What the hell are we gonna do?” Tubbo whispered, leaning back on his heels and hugging his knees to his chest. Ranboo just shook his head, looking lost. Tommy’s mind was already turning though, hundreds of possible plans and ideas filling his head.

Only one seemed plausible though.

Tommy jumped to his feet quickly, making both Tubbo and Ranboo start. Ranboo looked up at him, his eyebrows pulled together in concern.

“Tommy…”

“I know what we have to do,” Tommy said, his voice more sure than he felt. “Tubbo, get in contact with the others, tell them to meet us here. We need to make a plan if this is gonna work.”

Tubbo nodded, pulling out his phone and tapping out a quick message. Ranboo rose to his feet, watching Tommy carefully.

“Toms, what are you thinking?”

Tommy met his gaze straight on, standing as tall as he could, his fists curled into balls at his sides.

“I’m going to give myself up to Dream.”
