The next day, Tommy returned to work. And no, it wasn’t because Niki would probably kill him if he missed one more day. Ok, maybe that was part of the reason.
In reality, Tommy had two major fears of going back to work. The first, obviously, was Wilbur. Tommy honestly didn’t know how he would be able to act like everything was normal if Will came in like he normally did. He would probably slip up and spill everything, that was if Wilbur hadn’t already guessed. Tommy wasn’t really the best at hiding things.
The second reason was Dream.
He wasn’t scared of Dream. There was no reason why Tommy would be scared of the green teletubby fucker. But…
The thought of being dragged back to the Tower, after everything… Tommy knew he wouldn’t survive that. He couldn’t. But he also couldn’t go another day without inflicting the wrath of Niki.
So, Tommy steeled his nerves, reaching out to push the door to the cafe open.
“Look who decided to show up.”
Tommy glared at Tubbo, who was standing near the counter, a smirk on his lips and a cup of hot chocolate in his hands. Ranboo rolled his eyes from his spot behind the counter, shooting Tommy a smile as he absently reorganized the bags of coffee beans.
“Welcome back to the land of the living Toms.”
Tommy just flipped them both off, walking around behind the counter and pulling his apron on over his head. Niki, having heard the talking, poked her head out from the backroom, giving Tommy a warm smile.
“Hey Tommy, welcome back. We’re looking at a slow day today, so you shouldn’t have too much work to do. Just try to take it slow and please don’t set anything on fire.”
Before Tommy could protest that he had never set anything on fire in his life, Niki had disappeared back into the backroom. Tommy turned around, shooting a glare at Tubbo, who was grinning maliciously at him.
“Ya Tommy, don’t set anything on fire.”
“It was one time!” Tommy protested, grabbing a coffee bean out of Ranboo’s pile and throwing it at Tubbo. “And it wasn’t even me!”
“Sure it wasn’t.”
Their argument was cut off by the sound of the door to the cafe opening. Tommy spun around, his whole body stiffening as he prepared to bolt if needed. But neither Wilbur nor Dream walked through the door. Instead, a tall, heavy built man with pink hair pulled back into a loose ponytail stepped into the cafe, pushing his glasses absently up the bridge of his nose as he glanced around. Even in civilian clothes, Tommy probably could’ve recognized him anywhere.
The Blade stepped up to the counter, shooting Ranboo a small smile before turning back to Tommy, who was standing at the register.
“Can I get three black coffees, one with sugar and one with whole milk?”
Tommy nodded, putting the order in and muttering under his breath, “Fucking villains and their black coffee.”
The corner of the Blade’s mouth twitched upwards before his expression settled into something more neutral. “It’s rude to talk about someone when they’re standing right in front of you.”
Tubbo seemed to jump slightly from his spot by the counter, shooting the Blade a look before turning to watch his hot chocolate very intently. Ranboo too, seemed to be purposefully avoiding looking at the two.
Tommy just scoffed, turning to slide the order across the counter to Ranboo before moving to pull a jug of milk out from the small fridge in the corner. “Whatever you say, Blade. Your glasses look dumb as shit.”
