So I'm sitting in my third period, just chilling when I hear some kids yelling. I mumble to myself, "Stupid sixth graders!" It sounds like they're getting closer, though.

I hear one of them yell, "Leave me alone," and it sounds like my younger brother, Taerial.

The hallway doors opens and I see his big black mohawk in the little window. He starts banging on the door and I raise my hand, "My little brother needs me."

"Go," says my monotone teacher.

Just as I walk out the door, he gets behind me. I see a group of boys come in the hallway.

"Oh, you're hiding behind your big sister, now?" One of the boys ask. I recognize them!

"Man, you can't fight for nothing!" Another laughs as Taerial grips my waist.

"Go in my class, Tae." I said.

"What are you going to do?"

"What do you want with my little brother?"

"He a snitch. He told my girl I was cheating on her."

"So you want to fight him for something you did?"

"I ain't do nothing! He's just trying to get my girl!"

I noticed one of the boys staring at me, "Do you want something?"

"Not you!"

"Don't try me li'l boy." I warned as I clenched my fists.

"Man, let's go!"

"And leave my brother alone!" I yelled after them.

I walked back in class to see Tae sitting in my seat, "Can he stay in here?"

"Uh, yeah. He's going to have to sit over by the computers, though."

"Get up, and go over there." I told him.

He sat at the computer furthest to the back. I noticed he didn't have his book bag. "Where's your book bag?"

"In Mrs. Jones class."

"Where's that?"

He told me and I walked out, searching for her room.

"What do you need?"

"Taerial's stuff."

"Where is he?"

"In my class."

"Who do you have?"

"Mr. Morris."

"Why is he in there?"

"Can I please just get his things?" I asked agitated.

"Hurry up," she brushed me off.

While I was getting his belongings, the bell rang. I groaned and grabbed his homework before running to my class.

"Come on, you're staying with me for the rest of the day."

We handed each other the right book bags as fourth period was filling in. He followed me to my fourth period class and sat behind me.

"Jay... Jay!" He whisper-yelled.

"What?"

"I'm hungry!"

"We are about to go. Calm yourself!"

"But I was supposed to have been ate!"

"And you were supposed to get jumped too, but I see that ain't happen."

"Why you gotta bring that up?"

"Hey! You're not supposed to be in here, but I let you! Now be quiet or I'll call the sixth grade office!" My teacher barked.

I rolled my eyes and finished my work. As soon as the bell rang, I dragged Tae out.

"If you get me in trouble, I'll break you!"

"Yeah right!" He laughed.

"Try me!" I sounded like a dibict.

I let go of his collar and he dropped his head. He followed me to the lunchroom where I sat in my usual spot; all the way in the back, next to the restrooms.

"This is my first time sitting in the back." Tae exclaimed.

"I sit here everyday." I grinned.

"For real?"

"Yeah, I have to come straight to lunch, so it's just whatever." I shrugged.

He ate his food as the cafeteria became crowded. One of my best friends, Eliza, sat in front of us.

"Hey, Eliza!" I smiled.

"Hey. Girl, your brother is in trouble!"

"Why?"

"It's a lot of people that want to fight him. Especially Deshawn."

"He on the Hit List?"

"What's the Hit List?" Tae asked.

"It's a list people make. When a lot of people want to fight one person, the get put on the list." I explained.

"And you're on it." Eliza said before turning around.

"I'm going teach you how to fight tonight." I told him.

"I already know how to fight."

"Oh really? Well when you came running to my class earlier, I just assumed you didn't."

"Man, I did that because I ain't want to fight."

"Well next time," I leaned in close, "don't run to me."

Just as I said that, DeAndre, Deidrick, and Alex came up to our table and sat next to me.

"Aye, bae, why you been hiding from me?" DeAndre asked.

"Ain't nobody been hiding. Why you ain't been talking to me?"

"I been busy."

"Okay then."

He glanced over at Tae and smiled, "What's up?

"Hi."

"What's wrong with him?" Deidrick asked.

"Y'all li'l brothers is what's wrong! They put him on the Hit List."

"My brother?" Alex asked.

"Yes. You, Dei, and Andre. All y'all little brothers."

"Dang, bae, I'm sorry." Andre gave a dry apology.

"Whatever." I sighed, "Dump my tray, Tae."

"Why you can't do it?"

"Dump my tray! Don't talk back to me!" I sounded like his mother.

He grabbed my tray and followed the crowd that was dumping their's. I turned to face the boys, "I promise on my life that if your brothers, or any of their little 'friends', do anything to mine, I will break them! I will ensure that the rest of their lives will be miserable! Got it?"

"Why you tripping?" Alex asked.

"Baby boy, my feet are flat and firm on the floor. I don't know who you see tripping, but it sure enough isn't me."

When Tae got back, I grabbed our stuff and left.
