*Amir's POV*

The scent filled the air. It stopped us short.

Amir.

I know Rhaan, I smell it too.

The demon stopped, and sniffed the air deeply. Our eyes looked straight ahead, and zeroed in on our target.

It's her.

I watched as she slowly turned in our direction as we stood frozen, and raised her hand towards. Everything was quiet. Nothing and no one moved. The demon slowly stalked towards her. Gaining speed with each step, lusting after the delicious smell that came from her. She looked us deep in the eyes...then my own widened.

She smirked...and flicked her injured hand at us. Her blood...seemed to move in slow motion as if to taunt the demon, before splashing on the rocks a ways in front of us.

The demon snarled; Challenge accepted.

The shock shook me to my core. Did he just...

Screams rang out as we charged, but we weren't focused on no one else. Just her. Fear flashed across her face as members of my Senate tried pushing the people back.

My breath hitched.

DO NOT HURT HER! I tried reigning it in. Blinding pain ran through me as the beast punished me for attempting to deny him. I could feel myself losing consciousness as the demon completely consumed me.

The last thing I remembered was a female's body pressed against mine...and the sweet taste of her blood filling my mouth.

Guess we found our feeder.

*Serene's POV*

Pain. That's what I woke up to. Absolute pain. Especially in my neck. I gently touched the area where the pain was coming from and winced at how tender it was. Someone gently grabbed my hand and I slowly turned to see my mum gently smiling at me.

"Hey baby. How're you feeling?"

I coughed to get rid of the scratchiness in my throat and mum quickly handed me a cup of water.

"If hell had a feeling, I imagined it'll be like this."

She chuckled gently. I then took the time to take in my surroundings. This place was definitely not my home.

"It's not." my eyes widened.

"I said that out loud?"

"You did." she laughed. "We're not home Serene. We're in Asnuelia Palace."

I laid back. Then sat up straight ignoring the blinding pain in my neck. "The villagers, the city...?!" I asked with wide eyes.

She gently patted my hand. "They're safe, baby. The Senate and the Legion got everyone that was attacking. None of them was left alive. They're now working on repairing the city and tending to the injured." then she sighed deeply. "And burying the ones that didn't survive."

We sat in silence for a little while. Then I asked the question I wasn't really sure I wanted to know the answer to. "What happened? After he got to me? I don't really remember anything after that." I said quietly.

She took in a deep breath then started.

"The Senate started pushing the people who were able to move further back..."

*Flashback*

He smelled it. I knew the exact moment that he did. He started stalking towards me, but I could tell his focus wasn't completely on me yet. I needed it to be if I wanted to save these people. Then an idea hit me. An idea that told me I was playing with fire.
