*Amir’s POV*
I gestured for her to sit as she cautiously came towards me. I answered the questioning look on her face.
“Our medical staff are preparing the medical supplies we’ll need so I offered to do it this time. I know this is sudden but I’m sure Qasim. told you we’ll be leaving pretty soon?”
She nodded. “Yeah, that’s why you need the extra blood.”
“Good. Now we’ll be drawing a lot more than usual, so there’s a high chance you may be extremely woozy or even pass out.”
Her eyes widened.
“BUT,” I rushed to ease her. “Trust me when I say that you’re in safe hands alright?”
“Alright.” after a few seconds. I nodded then started preparing.
“Are you sure you’re able to do this?” I raised an eyebrow at her question.
“I mean…are you gonna be fine? Like with the smell and everything?”
I caught on. I searched for one of her veins as I answered her. “The demon’s…sated for now. It usually takes a long while before he starts to act up and you came just three days ago.” I reassured her. “I’ll be alright.” I stepped back and sat on the nearby bed, making sure to keep an eye on her to make sure she was fine.
I took this time to observe her, thinking back on the last few weeks as she sat back and stared up at the ceiling.
She was a regular in and out of the palace a lot these days but we were hardly ever together in the same place at the same time. Whenever we did see each other we would exchange a few words or even have a short conversation but that was it.
I’ve overheard rumors about her around the palace as maids and servants tend to gossip, and I've yet to hear a bad thing about her. I was also informed that she was a huge help around the town, helping the people who needs it, and I found it very admirable.
For some reason I couldn’t find it in me to completely trust her yet though. Maybe it’s because I haven’t spent any time to know and figure her out…but there was something about her plus the attack a few weeks back that didn’t sit right with me.
I’d had a background check performed on her but what frustrated me was that the last 13 years years of her life draws a blank in information. All I knew was that she spent those years in Mayuda Country.
My eyes narrowed at that.
Mayuda was a backwards country. People on the outside thought it was a paradise, but that was because they advertised only what they wanted people to see. On the inside…completely different. I’ve had people I trusted placed inside Mayuda country just as a precaution, and the reports I’ve received were less than impressive. But that was also another reason why I was skeptical about Serene.
None…of my people on the inside had any knowledge about anyone with that name that lived there during those years. Let alone a witch with that name.
Witches and wizards were rare enough as it is with the last one named on record as Kassim. No last name. No profile. And from what the records say he was killed some odd years ago.
Any questions I asked her mother she would simply shake her head and smile. My mother was the same.
It was no secret that they knew each, but there’s something about their history together that was more than questionable. They knew something… that they were keeping silent about.
The fact that she’s been gone from Asnuelia for 13 years…and then an attack happens just weeks after she comes back…
I don’t believe in coincidences.
