Epilogue

*Serene’s POV*

I sat on the hill outside my house taking in the skyline, running my hands through Lillia’s hair while she slept on my lap.

I was so deep in my thoughts that I almost didn’t notice the figure who joined us.

“Find anything?”

She sighed. “No. Plus the information I was able to receive lines up with what Amir and the others got. I’m sorry Rene, but the girl who you keep seeing in your dreams…I don’t think she exists…at least not yet. There would have been some record of her one way or another.”

I sighed. I’ve been having the same recurring dream for the past 6 months now. Nothing new had developed with the ‘human migration’ through the portals however 6 months ago I began seeing a figure in my dreams constantly. It took a few weeks before the image became clear before I realised it was a girl. Every now and again the dream would change, it would either be the setting we’re in or how we met but regardless she’s the one thing that’s always there.

I’d had the same dream so much that it wasn’t hard to figure out it was trying to tell me something, and that something involved her.
So, without any giveaway to Amir, I decided to tell Hazel about it. If I told Amir he would’ve tried to downplay it as my nerves or worse yet, try to limit the information I get about it.

I love that man with all my heart and he’s changed over the years…but the one thing that took me a while and the hard way to understand was his twisted way of wanting to protect me. From everything.
However, I mean…after he told me about the way I practically ‘died’ in his arms…I guess I get it. It took multiple arguments and harsh words but we’d come to an understanding.

Hazel agreed that the dreams were peculiar and started to look into it herself. I told her she didn’t have to because it meant hiding secrets from her brother but she insisted that she wanted answers about this as much as I did. She like myself also felt that the dreams weren’t normal at all.

We’d gathered that the girl was a human…and she’d come with the other humans through the portals. That much was clear. However after months of looking and searching and drawing up a blank…it was getting hard to believe that she was real.

But if she wasn’t why would I still be dreaming about her?

I shook my head. “I’m sorry Haze but I can’t believe that. My gut won’t allow me to believe that. She exists. She may not have even made it through the portals yet…but that girl exists. There’s no way she doesn’t.”

She sighed once more. “Alrighty. If you feel so strongly about this, then there’s a reason. I’ll keep looking.”

“No.”

She looked at me in confusion. “No?”

I shook my head. “No. Let fate run its course. If she is a real person and we are meant to meet…it’ll happen. No more searching.”

She stared at me for a moment then sat back and took a deep breath in. it was silent for a few moments, the only thing being heard was the sound of Lillia’s soft snores.

“But what about the other thing? The thing that Amir refused to tell you when he told you about the humans coming through the portals?”

I chuckled. “Amir has a very twisted way of looking out for me. I don’t, he probably thought that telling me the humans were dealing with the Infinity Drug would’ve sent me spiralling, even after everything I've been through.” then I turned somber. “But the thought is scary. What do humans have doing dealing with the Infinity Drug? Experiments? Executions?”

Hazel drew her knees into her chest and held them. “MY bet…is on experiments. The Infinity Drug is a death sentence for people like us with powers and are supernatural. It’s the only thing that can kill us in one blow…but humans…it’s always been said that it works differently on humans. It doesn't kill them. Of course we don’t know how or even if that’s true cause it’s never been proven. But if the tales about the humans are true…then honestly they have a much more morbid society than we do. And that’s almost funny to think about because we’re supposed to be the monsters.” she said, chuckling a bit as well.

It was quiet. I knew what was about to be asked…and I was almost terrified of giving an answer.

“Serene,” she started softly.

“Hmm?”

“Something’s gonna happen…isn’t it? Something big?”

I took a deep breath in then looked up at the sky.

“Yes. Yes it is.”

*Unknown POV*

She was pushed down in front of it and her hair grabbed and forced back so she was looking up at him.

“This is your last chance. Choose wisely.”

She grinned sweetly up at him. “Send me to hell then.”

He slapped her across the face and kicked her in the gut in rage before ordering his guards.

“Send this bitch through. I don’t care if she lives or dies. Lets see where her righteous act leads her.”

Then with one last hard glare at him and a kick in the back by one of his guards, she was sent barreling through the portal.
